Darn. The "fanboy version" seems to be a bit too much fanservice for my tastes so I guess I'll have to rent this first when it comes out. But hey, thanks for bringing us Witchblade! |
What I am actively working on is telling everybody that there is a good story and overall plot that starts right in the first episode.
Style and Substance
It's a supernatural detective story along with Masane discovering/controlling/protecting her powers.
It's plotted much like a comic book.

Was that the pitch you guys gave to Adult Swim?
Are there plans to air this on television? If so, would the "fanboy version" air on television? |

Gee, you guys make me laugh. Complaining about "skin". It's frickin' 'Gonzo' for crying out loud! And it isn't like our comics are any better. Considering the likes of 'Image' and now 'Top Cow'. Nothing but busty. But at least 'Masane' has some appeal. And trust me, they are selling the "boobies" but it's not the entirety of the series. There is a plot for what it is.
It's ok. It might be better to watch or rent before you decided to buy. This way no once can say they were *cough* *cough* "tricked" into buying it (as she refers to another thread).
As for the difference in versions it isn't just the fact that we're getting the unedited version. It's also the fact that there was good deal of material that was changed. The TV version was done on a different scope. Meaning many of the animations are not as slicked up. As the team that was working on it had to crank it out as quickly as possible to meet the deadlines. Even though it was airing in Japan late night they still couldn't have characters running around half naked without some censorship. Considering 'Uno Makoto's designs, they were really pushing it. As well as something else.
The DVD versions are more cleaned up. Many shots were redone or cleaned up. Where some shots appeared one way often ended up another. Not to mention it's for home enjoyment.
They didn't change everything but it's good enough. Crisp and clear. You can see stuff you couldn't as the TV version was dark. I'm only speaking of this as having seen the entire series forwards and backwards. I've seen both the DVD and TV versions side by side and cited them in depth on forums. So I pretty much know a little more than what's cited on the wiki. Trust me I'm not proud of the extent of my "geekiness".
I'm curious to see how 'FUNimation' packages this. Considering the difference in the 2 separate editions, in Japan the R2 versions came with slip covers. Since there were 8 vols. released in Japan each vol. had a special slip cover that featured a character from the show. More like "cheesecake" collectables.
"PRAISE MAKOTO-SAN AND ALL HIS ROSEY BOSOM GLORY!!!
This was separate from DVD case cover. Plus, they featured special booklets that contained concept art for such characters.
'll be picking this up but it will be the last thing on my list. I'm still keeping my "raws" of the TV version as they're good for a laugh. They are truly 2 different horses. |

Well, I wouldn't say we were complaining about it per se (OK, maybe I was complaining a little bit, but still). It was more like commenting on the raciness of the costume than actual complaining. |

Hahaha!!! I'm just poking fun. Cause I hear it so much. Well, you know those crazy Japanese. After all isn't all considered porn? Hahahah!!
Ah well. Yeah it's a bit racy. And to be honest the "skin" version makes it even moreso. Which is why I can see why some preferred the "shaded" version. |

| this show was a really nice surprise. I thought it was going to be a plain fan service/action show, but it's got a pretty good story, likable characters and some pretty funny scenes. if anything, masane's oversized breasts kinda hurt the whole of the show. still, I'm totally buying this. |
