| Wow that pretty crazy, although considering that it wasn't with the other manga. Free speech laws are a little different in Japan then the US I guess, still that fine really does seem quite cheap. I don't know how serious this case got but that's like Paris Hilton getting fined for Drunk Driving. | ||||

| Wait I don't get it. They published an adult manga, sectioned it off from minors and still got fined?
What did they do wrong? |

I guess nudity is something that Japan isn't ready for, I know that their pornographic films they have to censor people genitals. I don't know the manga specifics but thats pretty crazy that you can be fined for that, hell he nearly went to Jail. |

| Japan has some very odd laws regarding pornography. A lot of the quirks of hentai anime and manga (tentacles, mosaic genitals, etc.) apparently stem directly from working around these laws. | ||||

| So pornographic media is against Japanese laws, eh? Well what about the games done by these people and those pornographic anime games (not done by Illusion) that have been around for a long time? Last edited by Riyousha on Sat Jun 16, 2007 11:22 pm; edited 1 time in total |

This is a little confusing Was the problem that they were not distributing the manga in pornographic retailers but regular retail outlets instead? Or is blatant nudity just completely banned across the board? |

| Wow I didn't know about this. Beauty Hair is one of my favorite H-Manga artist he really can draw pretty damn well. I wouldn't say that his work is really hardcore trust me I've seen stuff that Beauty Hair wouldn't dare do. |

| A lot of Japanese culture is quite stupid, I really don't have any respect for certain large segments of it. Seems like they have some hardcore moralists in their country, as well, but their constitution has more holes in it for them to take advantage of. | ||||

There are kilotons of obscene manga and DVD circulating in Japan, so why picked this one specifically? The official reason of the prosecution was "not blacking out genitals for at least 40%," but I'd say because a congressman named Katsuei Hirasawa told police that he received complaints about this manga in August 2002. A complete record of the lawsuit progress can be found here (in Japanese, of course). |

LOL, I guess the law only matters when politicians are involved. Their laws concerning using black bars to cover up genetalia are a humongous joke anyways. |

The same applies to America too, word by word. Off topic aside, as far I know in Japan is against the law to depict genitalia and pubic hair. With that kind of laws, even the work of classic japanese painters like Hokusai would be illegal. Welcome to right wing politics |

My school was a little bit more lax on this then I assumed they'd be. I got a good helping of actual science back in High School. I was probably more upset by the fact that are school preached abstinence, and refused to even give information to students who bravely asked about using birth control or condoms. My teacher (aka football coach) just kept saying "Well your guarantee to not get pregent by using abstinence" and I thought that was totally bs.

The combination of these things together in such plain language in this article made me laugh. I know that freedom of expression shouldn't be taken lightly, but I wonder if people in general realize how hilarious they sound when they make a complaint that they're being deprived of their right to freely express pussy. |

| Stupid laws exist in every country, and so it the legislation on genitals in Japan. However, as foreigners, we're probably not in the position to judge Japanese interior laws, as they can criticize us for other topics.
Be aware that a similar same situation exists in the US : In Japan, they put black bars over the genitals, in the US they edit the edition to prevent any nipples to be shown, as already talked about in this treat. And to say that papparazzi compete to show the slightest part of Paris Hilton's nipples. |
