| Jeez... I'm glad this came up, I almost missed out on the TV series boxsets. I was wondering why Amazon didn't have them.
Oh, well. Anyway, why wait for a dub, I mean if the giant chunk of the anime (as in the tv series) is not dubbed then why dub the rest. Seems kinda pointless to me. |

| Phooey. I watched Only You last night and went into a deep funk afterwards because I knew it would be the last new UY DVD for a loooong while. And now even longer.
Anyone taking bets on when Box 6 of the TV series will be out? I'm thinking May 2004, with movie three in time for next Christmas. Double-phooey. |

Huh, am I missing something? AnimeEigo has them unless you meant the fourth set and on. |

Nah, I bought 1-5, but it would be nice to have the box that it the set first came with. They said some time ago that they were sell the boxs for those people that them by themselfs. ADD ON: Hmmm, I had a brain fart. It looks like they will be giving the boxs for the movies after all. |

| They're going to dub the rest of the movies, and possiblly the OVA's? At last my prayers have been answered. Now I just hope I live long enough to get them when they are available. I feel for those who have been buying the subbed only box sets. Unless one prefers sub only, It's a case of decide in haste, lament at leisure. | ||||

Phew. Wow, you scared me. I thought there might be another box set. I figured you already knew about those.
Nah, I prefer to watch it in the language I first saw it in anyway. Something about changing languages changes my perception of the characters (a little). Normally I could care less which language it's in as long as it's good. |

I hope the empty box set with slots for all 6 DVDs encourages Central Park Media/U.S. Manga Corps to release a new version of Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer on DVD as part of their "Collector's Series", with the original aspect ratio (and the un-truncated closing credits) as well as some of the extras from the Region 2 Beautiful Dreamer DVD, especially the semi-animated/semi-storyboarded Leiji Matsumoto anime-parody sequence, and, most importantly, the commentary track with Mamoru Oshii and Shigeru Chiba and others. Maybe, they can also get the AnimEigo cast to redub it.
The sub-only box sets are only for the TV series, which AnimEigo, currently, has no intention to dub. The existence of a TV series dub (well, one that lasts more than 2 episodes) wouldn't bother me in the slightest, but I'm a sub fan and I wouldn't rebuy the first 15 volumes just to get a dub I wouldn't listen to except out of curiousity. Why dub the movies and OVAs and not the TV series?

AnimEigo is doing an excellent job releasing the subtitled Urusei Yatsura TV series boxsets! I personally prefer the original Japanese dialogue with English subtitles. I for one would contend it would be pretty darn difficult (if not impossible) to improve upon the already stellar Japanese voice talents of Fumi Hirano (Lum), Toshio Furukawa (Ataru), and Akira Kamiya (Mendou), just to name a few! Personally, I truly cannot imagine anyone else playing any of those essential UY characters. Nevertheless, IMHO waiting for AnimEigo to properly release the remainder of the UY TV series, OVAs & movies is something I believe is worth waiting for. Lastly, it has been my experience that AnimEigo stands behind their products and recalls them if damaged and/or there are production errors. They did so for the Kimagure Orange Road tv series and to a lesser extend the BGC series too. I do not know of any other anime distributor or subtitler that makes such a profound effort to stand by their product. As such, for those of you who want the dubtitling, by all means get it if it's available. But, for those of you who want UY in its purest form, I recommend and commend those of you who are waiting alongside myself for AnimEigo's eventual complete release of this classic Rumiko title! |
