This is great news! The second season of Emma has been without a doubt the only truly outstanding show I've seen this year, topped with my overwhelming love for the original and the manga, and this is a definitely purchase for me.
This is one show I'll say it's a real shame that so few people bothered to take the time to check it out. It'd be one of those "ultra hip otaku shows that everyone loves" if it got equal treatment alongside shows like Honey and Clover, Monster, or Haruhi Suzumiya.
I'm disappointed there won't be an English dub, just because this is a show that takes place in England, but I like the Japanese cast enough to not feel necessary to hear a dub where a bunch of Americans pretend to be British. |

Funi is my last hope for Ouran High School Host Club and Code Geass. Oh, PLEASE let those be announced tomorrow by Funi! | Isn't Code Geass a Bandai show? I thought that generally they only get licensed out to Bandai Entertainment or Bandai Visual, so maybe Otakon. | Oh! Well, thanks for that information. BE's panel is right after Funi's, so I'll just keep my butt planted in my seat then. | I don't think Funi would get Code Gayass Geass. It's mecha, it's from Sunrise (see also My-Hime, Bebop, Infinite Ryvius, Scryed, Gundam, etc.), so it's pretty much guaranteed to go to Bandai. And probably not Bandai Visual, since imo it has more "mainstream" appeal and would do well as a dual-language standard release rather than an upscale collectors' release.
As for keeping your butt planted in your seat for a subsequent panel, good luck...if my past experiences are common, they'll clear the room, kick you out, and make you wait at the back of the line. At least that's what happened to me when I went to Manga Ent's panel at Akon last year and tried to stay there for Funimation's panel.
As for Emma, it's one of those shows that I DLed nearly two years ago and still haven't watched, but I think I'll pick up TRSI's Nozomi's boxed sets just because it's such a mega-niche series. |

| I really don't get why companies like Right Stuf and Anime Nation can license obscure shows like Emma and Hare + Guu, and take the risk across 3-4 dvds or an online-only boxset, but they claim there's no market for OVAS like Angel's Egg, Mind Game, or Nasu. If Manga can take a chance on Karas, and ADV can take a chance on The Place Promised in Our Early Days, which have absolutely no big names, either, there's gotta be a market for those kinds of titles. |

After all, The Place~ came after the release of Voices of a Distant Star, and I'd say there's plenty of anticipation for 5cm/s based on the previous two movies and name alone. |

| I'm not complaining about the lack of dub especially at $38 (current non member TRSI price) for 300 minutes! I will have to say that this is a much better deal compared to BVUSA's 2 episodes for about the same cost non-dub releases. This price is amazingly good, and is only rivaled by Imaginasian's $9 sub only DVDs. I don't mind a lack of dub if the price reflects it. |

| Zalis: Makoto Shinkai probably ranks slightly above, say, Leiji Matsumoto, in fan awareness, but I doubt he's as big as Oshii or Anno. |

If the show was based in India they would be speaking one of the many languages spoken in India. Yugo the Negotiator is a good example. It just wouldn't make sense for a Victorian English setting show to have american accents. Especially a show that is so meticulously detailed. It works in Japanese because you can just imagine it was all translated for the native audience but in English it would be jarring to the story. |

Something strange I noticed in TRSI's press release: | Quote: | | The series’ first-ever DVD collection will include all 26 episodes of Lost Universe with the English-language dub from the original North American release, Japanese audio and updated English subtitles. The Lost Universe Collection Thinpak is scheduled to street during Fall 2007. | Maybe I'm going crazy, but I could swear I've seen one of those old ADV brick collections for the series at a friend's house or at a con, like the "Perfect Collections" for Princess Nine, Nadesico, and other old ADV releases. And I would've known if it was a bootleg. Then again, I can't find any evidence of such a collection on ANN, AoD, or Amazon, so maybe I really am fabricating memories here. Either way, I hope the thinpack follows the TRSI thinpack pattern and includes extras, even though I'm sure they'd be meager extras. Even though I've heard Lost Universe isn't so good, I might pick it up anyway to complete the "Slayers and related items" collection. |

You aren't crazy. I have some older anime series where LOST Universe has a trailer in it. Forget which titles and their distributor though... Eh, don't worry. The previous holder lost/dropped it, TRSI...excuse me...Nozomi has it now and a new generation of fans can now see Slayers in Space or at least that's how Shawn K. described it. |

No, he's mistaken; ADV never released a set of Lost Universe in any form. I would have bought it if they did because I am a box whore.
As the for the series itself, it's nowhere near as much fun as Slayers, but I still like it.
Are they going to be able to undo the single video edit ADV made to the series (changing the (English) word written on a girl's forehead from "bitch" to "loser")?
I hope they sub the incantation at the end of the series as to make it clear it's the same god from Slayers that's being invoked, and anything else that indicates it's using the same cosmology.[/nerd] |

Just the news I wanted to hear. I was wondering when this was going to happen. I wake up to check the news and see it...'Emma' season's 1 and 2 licensed. Excellent!! Really enjoyed the first series and am still checking out the second. But I'm happy to be able to pick this up.
Interesting that 'TRSI' is releasing them as set boxes. Makes it easier for me to just grab them both. YAY!! |

I waited for SO LONG for a Lost Universe boxset.... but I thought it would never happen (since its been years) and I broke down and bought 4+5 when I saw them, telling myself I'd get a box right after.
Its been a month. ;0; |

As someone who really does not like sub-only, I have to admit that I'm tempted. TRSI is releasing Emma in a way that actually strikes me as rational for a niche title. Frankly, I'm finding their claims about this being a niche title and too difficult to dub in English much more credible than Media Blaster's claims about their titles.
Anyway, my every growing hatred of MB aside, I think this sounds like a good release. I may just have to create an exception to my rule about not buying monolingual releases.

Thanks for the welcome back. Now that my off line world has calmed back down to none-life threatening proportions, I felt like I could finally come back on ANN.
Anyway, at least with TRSI I feel there's hope if sales are good enough or the overall situation changes with anime sales in general, that they might be willing to come back and do an English dub. (It would help if someone, anyone, would try to get eBay and others to deal with the bootlegs. It's not like that situation can get much worse.)
I have to admit, I do have a completely selfish reason to want to get Emma. I'd really like to see my name on a DVD! |
