Coming up to someone and hitting them(unknowningly at the time) with an unknown object does count as a form of an assault.

If there's any reason the guy should have been banned it's because that was one incredibly weak pieing. I mean come on guy! Is your love of Robotech that weak that all you can do is hit him with a little melted whip cream after stuttering through a little speech about how Harmony Gold has ruined a 20+ year old show that would be considered a bastardized version of an anime if it ran in today's climate? Where's his zeal?
The guy does seem like a tremendous douchebag from his website, but seriously, it's a pie. Kick him out for a year or two if you need to, but I don't find this any more offensive then girls running around essentially panhandling for cash or pocky that happens at cons across the US. What's more insane then the lifetime ban is the fact that ANN is giving this asshat any publicity by running a news story on him.
Edit: Clarified what I meant by panhandling.

I can't believe this is what was going on in the largest US convention. I've never seen such a scene in Taiwan, and neither my friends in Hong Kong and Japan. How about European cons? I don't believe people would do something like that either.

| We all seem to be bashing this fool, and he deserves it, but I’m sure if he found this forum he would be overjoyed. This type of person feeds on negative criticism. Our words only serve to reinforce his warp views on reality. If any one hasn’t yet read his blog, I suggest you read it right now. It will give you a really good look into the inner workings of a disturbed mind. After I read it I realized just how lucky Mr.Yune was, there could have been a real chance that this fool could have put a lot more then just whipped cream in that pie. Also the law makes no distinction between whether the pie was used with malice intent or not, that fool could have been arrested even if it was just a joke. |

This Sesshoumaru finds it amusing how you fools debate this topic. One must understand that all who say that this individual's actions were wrong and the penalty was justified, are complete hypocrits. If one were to walk by, unknowing of the situation and were to randomly spot someone being creamed by a pie, you would laugh.
It is a simple matter of fact that pie in the face equals funny.

That has already happened to both parties. While not funny at first, we shared laughs about it later on. Waste of good pie, though.

Last I checked, section 240 and 242 of the CA Penal code stated differently. In particular the rocket scientist's statements on his blog indicate that this was a retaliation and an aggressive act (despite his statement to the contrary).
Long story short, it was behavior unbecoming of the attendee who resorted to a physical means since he did not get what he wanted in the course of normal dialog.
Did I have a chuckle? A little, but I've also placed people under arrest whose actions I've laughed at. The two facets aren't mutually exclusive.
Now I'm the type who prefers to hear both sides, so I went to this gent's blog and even took a gander at Google to get a more representative view. Seriously? He's another angsty fan in my book. And despite the statements that the act, and his intentions were not malicious, you cannot help but to recognize that Mr. Schiller is being disingenuous the moment he begins taking pot-shots at Mr. Yune's relationship with his wife. Does that have anything to do with the argument? With "Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles"? With the Robotech franchise in general?
Nope. It's just a was for this guy to justify his animosity.
Don't know about the rest of you folks, but I'm pretty cool with washing my hands of the event, if for no other reason then to keep from providing Schiller the additional attention he feels entitled to. |
