Oops, I thought we were talking about the novels, I didn't realize he was asking about the next anime series. Yeah, no dates for that yet but it probably won't be until next year.

I've just started reading the first novel (original text) and I loved it.
I see the main issue with this not coming out in the US for some time though. It would be very hard to find an editor who could find the words to emulate the narration which gives the novels their flair. I hope Little Brown will be able to pull it off. I've read some stuff by Haruki Murakami and what I've found was that, despite Murakami being able to speak English and Japanese, there are still some differences that give a different feel to it. I think that Murakami chooses his editors well and publishes novels that fit in terms of translation but think about applying that to Haruhi which isn't so easy. |

How do you guys feel about the fact that there have been some slight alterations to the character designs for the upcoming novel and anime? I'm fairly new to anime so I don't know if this is normal, but I just feel a little nervous about the illustrators changing the designs, even slightly, of the characters we all grew to love in the first 9 books and the first season of the anime.
For those of you who haven't heard about this yet, it was discussed in the July 2008 edition of Japan's Newtype magazine. The one which had Haruhi on the cover in her Koyouen uniform. |

Amazon has #1 as October 28. Or is that the manga?

I think the first Haruhi novel's release date in Britain is the 7th of May. I'm not sure about anywhere else.

If you pre-ordered the hardback version from TRSI you may already have it. I got my copy in not too long ago. Looks great and a spot check on the translation has me squeeing more than a little. (A few issues but nothing to kill the joy.)
Did a review here, mostly for my own fun but it's informative too. If you're waiting for the novel to show up on book shelves at B&M stores (that's brick and mortar if you haven't seen B&M before) then you may want to ask at the information desks if they will be getting the novel in at all and if it will hardback or paperback. The paperback has different cover art to make it a little more appealing to the greater masses. I'm still reading on another novel from Japan, Parasite Eve but hopefully I'll have time to start Haruhi in the coming months. Right now, due to a family situation, I can't plan more than a few hours ahead. |

I got the paperback version in a local Barnes and Nobles yesterday (the release date), but the local Borders didn't have it in stock and neither chain had the hardback version in stock.
Review is pending; might see it sometime next week. |
