NEWS: Live-Action Blood: The Last Vampire Film Opens in U.S.

I generally liked it, but the plot's a bit rushed; and the animatronic demons come off ancient for a modern-day horror flick. But it has potential to really rock, if they decide to do a sequel. Anyway, Ebert seemed to dig it.

It wasn't too bad of a film. Don't know about you, but they were giving away posters where I went.

Saw it last month. It surprisingly out lasted Jackie Chan's Shinjuku Incident in local theaters, which only had two weeks at most.

The print I watched didn't have subtitles when the characters speak in Japanese; DVD should fix that. Hopefully it'll be out locally, like The Sinking of Japan.

It totally bites that they only played the movie in 20 theaters. They should have done a better premier of it with a much wider release. No movie is worth a 600 miles one way drive to go see.

I saw this last Saturday (I live in the UK where its been out for a while). I enjoyed it, though I also think the plot was a bit rushed. I'm also rather surprised at how limited it is in the US as it seems to be pretty much everywhere here (I've been seeing poster at bus stops and adverts on the telly for a start).

It was a pretty good movie (DC theater is only 2 blocks South of Metro Center for anyone who is thinking of going.) The effects were laughably bad, but still very much worth seeing. It included a few callbacks to the animated movie, which felt kinda out of place considering the generally re-adapted approach. Definitely hoping this hits on Blu.

Apparently it isn't in any theatre at all in Canada.

I was a bit disappointed that the female villainess in the trailers is an original character named Onigen. I'd hoped she'd be Diva, from the Blood+ anime. The movie is airing nowhere near me, so I can't see it for myself. Maybe it works out better with this Onigen lady being the villainess.

bg: The scenes with the winged demons look like throwbacks to the Raimi era of horror. But the actors still manage to make it believable, which is what matters.

Boy that SUCKS - only 20 theaters? Why not a wide release? SUCKS BIG TIME... Nearest theater is about, oh, 900 miles away. They should have just done a direct to DVD release instead of this crap. Boy am I pissed. I was waiting for this to be released. And they wonder why movies end up on bittorent sites... its because of stupidity like this.

First, Oshii wasn't the main writer of the original short film. Second, this movie is crap. I guess I should have not been suprised considering how crappy the original short was.

There are very few anime properties that are more overrated than the original "Blood: The Last Vampire".

The original may be overrated, but the LA version didn't seem like an insult to the anime, which is all that matters to me.

vash: It's not gonna wow you, but it does do the trick if you're looking for a quick action-horror fix. And it's good to reward studios which get these adaptations right, or at least "close enough".

It's getting panned pretty hard at Rotten Tomatoes. Even so, I enjoyed the anime movie and the series, so if I can find time I might go see this on the big screen. It will definitely be on my rental list if I end up not being able to make it to the theater.

I wonder if it does reasonably well if they will give it a wider release or if they are just planning on giving it a short, limited run and taking it to DVD. If the latter is the case, I suspect we'll see a fairly quick DVD release.
