| Why would Hollywood be interested in Antique Bakery after that Aaron Eckhart/Catherine Zeta Jones cooking movie flopped? |

Yes, but Brokeback Mountain did well and there's gay cinema in general, so there's that. Plus maybe that Jones / Eckhart cooking movie was too much of a generic romantic comedy to do well anyway.
I'm not into shonen-ai or yaoi, but I applaud its fans for making a stand and supporting comics. Of course if it does get a movie and shonen ai gets mainstream, get ready for a sh--storm of controversy from conservatives. Good luck with that.
Anyway, the main issue here is that an American publisher has the honesty to display the original publisher's title on the cover! Good for them. I find it quite interesting to see that. When I was in Japan I was amazing to see how many takubon publishers there were. Of course even more interesting was that many of these companies used the term 'comics' right in their title.
Plus I have to toss in a dig at TokyoPop and say that it will be a cold day in hell before they ever show this honesty. Bastards like to pretend everything is 'manga' and won't even acknowledge what country it's from. |
