Now you've done it, Justin. Now everyone is gonna be getting this anime. Wink

I actually consider the menu for Legend of Lemnear to be worse. In my opinion, that was the worst anime DVD menu design I have ever seen. It was just a static image of the two main characters next to some ugly looking block menu options. At least Garzey's Wing added background clips to its menu design.

I have to admit, I think I found this more fun than a "Buried Treasure" column. I'm going to add that to my Netflix list - it's so bad, it's hilarious.

You didn't mention me. To quote myself...

I wrote:
Justin, I don't know what you've brought to this land, but for some reason, I've now ordered a copy of this...thing for $2.83 off of eBay. I enjoy owning funny trash much more than most people, though, so here's hoping.

Yep, it's really working. The sad thing is, I don't think this many people ever responded to a "Buried Treasure" segment with similar sentiments.

It's like getting a ten-year-old to try to summarize Atlas Shrugged for you -- you're gonna get a lot of words, and one or two of them might almost make sense here and there, but any point in telling the story at all is completely defeated.

Wait... are you implying that "Atlas Shrugged" actually had a point other than being just a bunch of bull?

I mean, talk about a failed epic...

Haha yeah, it's crazy and very ironic to think trash would bring more people together than treasure.

Hahaha... The video really makes all the difference on this one, doesn't it? It's a lot easier to sell something quick and funny than an actual work of art. At least it's fun!

Oh it hurts... so much. But I still think the 2nd cast for the "Heroic Legend of Arslan" dub was worse... these people just had to deal with a ridiculous, bulky script so they were doomed from the start. ^^

I laughed my head off when the swan swooped in and brought nudity with it. :p

With it's cheap price, fun animation, incomprehensible story, and , Garzey's Wing is quite fun. It's an odd thing to see both it and Dunbine...... Dunbine's craziness is more decently paced/written mind you [seriously, at one point spoiler[the Queen of England]joins the battle], but what's fun about Garzey's is that it just beats you over the head for it, assisted by all these screaming voice actors.

I hope you make this a regular column Justin Smile Buried Treasure is fun, but itd be good to rotate one of these in every other week.

At first when I was listening to the scene when Chris is in his bedroom and his other self is complaining to him, I thought that was you dubbing over it and poking fun at the dialogue and the show Surprised . I didn't think the dub was terrible the first clip or so in, but I can see why you consider it the worst as time went on (hard to think of other dubs more awful than that one). The badly acted/dialouged scene where he is decending into Byston Well was also a high...err...lowlight.

As for the "duck," it was most likely a swan. The bird played a symbolic role (namely as being representative of the character Lalah) in Mobile Suit Gundam (seen in the pivitol scene when Amuro first meets her) and Char's Counterattack (when Amuro sees her a his dream, and when the MSG scene is referenced). I guess it was just being used as a reference to his "other" franchise, or he just happens to have a fondness for swans.

I consider Tomino to be a great director, but he is definently not teflon. Garzey's Wing, Gundam ZZ, and even Gundam F91 (which I liked, but it admittedly had some major flaws) are considered failures of his and even works of his considered classics today, such as MSG and Ideon, are not exactly perfect (in contrast, I thought that Victory Gundam was a masterpiece, though it didn't do well and Tomino despises it due to personal issues during production). In truth, he's no different from other popular directors, such as Anno and Kon, who produce works that are usually held with high esteem but could also be argued for not being good at all. I can understand why you and others don't like Tomino just as much as why he has garnered the fanbase he has (same goes for other directors of his ilk).

Wow. That was epic levels of badness and horribly amusing. Thank you for that video. It was awesome. It was hard to believe that actually made it onto a legit DVD as anything other than a fandub extra.

I've always found CPM to have some of the worst dubs, I think I watched this one in Japanese. ShadowSkill was bad also

Just watched it again; 10 times funnier the second time around.

"I have bruises all over my body because I was fighting naked..."

"I'm surrounded by 12th and 13th century foreigners!"

I have nothing to add to this wonderful discussion. I just wanted to throw out the fact that I, too, am Netflixing this. If it's as funny as I think it'll be, I'll probably end up buying it. Very Happy

Now that I wasn't aware of. Generally, swans do have symbolic meaning (you can see some meanings for them here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swan#Role_in_culture ), so that was one reason I was thinking swan over duck. However, what really made me think of it was the way the neck of the bird was moving. Swans and Geese have necks that move like that in real life - Duck necks generally don't move like that.

Still, it was a really horrible drawing of a bird in general. It's so poorly drawn and out of proportion for the rest of the scene it makes me wonder if someone drew it up at the last minute and stuck it into the film Twisted Evil .
