Hey, no need to apologize for having an opinion. I'm just saying you've still got the Japanese track if you want. If you prefer English dubs and don't like this one, well, personally I disagree with you but it's your money. If you like Japanese, then you've got that. ADV's generally pretty good with subbing. (Not my preference but I sometimes compare the lines. I think ADV is second to none when it comes to onscreen text translations.)

As Richard points out, the "Why did they license this and not that?" question does come up in all of these threads, and that's what I was getting at. People are free to dislike Kanon all they want, but since I do like it, I will be prepared to defend it as not "boring." (Yeah, it is moe, and I don't care to debate the third point.) So I'm not stereotyping the people who dislike the series; I'm stereotyping the people who make those kinds of posts.
Anyway, to expand on the previous post, this was relatively expected after AIR and all the rumors, and I will be getting the DVDs as they come out, rather than in thinpack or Bargain-Bin format. |

I personally don't know what it is, but I been awaiting the DVDs of Air, and it being my alltime favorite anime, I would have expected to have bought it by now. I really think the whole idea where ADV has it is ruining me and my thrill of getting it...well, that is partially it...Mainly, I want to get the boxset, not individual DVDs. You know, I really don't know anymore...bah... I want it, but i don't. The japanese dialog was spectacular, and the girls all sounded remarkably cute. Will Uguu, Au, Ahaha, and Nyuu all survive in the dub? Only time will tell though. |

Seeing as how they preserved "gao" in Air, I don't see why they wouldn't keep Uguu. I'm very curious as to how they are going to dub the scene where Yuuichi tries to get Ayu to stop using "boku." |

Knew someone was going to bring up the keeping of Gao. The reason I am curious about those ones though, is because even if Gao was there, did anyone else notice "V" was wiped out? That was her other signature cute saying. I was very saddened by that.
Also, yes, the whole concept of her "Boku"ing is going to be very...umm...interesting. Everyone in America uses "I", we have no male and female ways of saying I. I was thinking about this a while back, but it totally slipped my mind. |

I noticed the absence of "V" as well...maybe it's because English speakers don't really have the mental connection between the gesture and the "V" utterance? At least not the same connection that Japanese speakers would have.
And some things like different pronouns for "I" don't translate well, no matter how hard you try. My guess for the dub is that they'll give Ayu some other kind of childish speech affectation, and have Yuuichi correct her on that instead. Hopefully they have some additional notes or explanations for it in the Japanese version. If ADV were Viz, they'd probably do it as, "Hey, stop saying 'I', it's childish!"   *fights off SaiKano flashback* But luckily ADV =/= Viz, so I'm sure they'll come up with something.
As for the Kanon cameos in AIR -- I have to say I didn't care for the English performances too much. But you've got to remember, the Japanese VAs for those roles were the same ones that did the characters for the 2002 Kanon series, so they had plenty of experience with the characters. The English VAs, on the other hand, had maybe 3 or 4 lines of source material to work with in determining how they should perform those roles. So hopefully, when the time comes to dub Kanon 2006, those English VAs and their director will have more to work with and a better understanding of the roles. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now. |

OH MA GOD! Will ADV be able to carry over the subtle nuances of Uguu~, will the VA for Yuuichi be able to match the blandness of Sugita Tomokazu's version, will people whine about it? The answers to all are.....probably?  |

This is such great news, and timely too, as I've just finished watching it twice for the first time, and over the last four days. I'm pleasantly surprised that it's become my favorite experience to date; still flush with the feeling of enchantment. Funny, beautiful, and very moving. Those who characterize it as "loli blah blah pedo blah blah" are not only totally missing the point of the story but are something else not even worth discussing here. The term "Baka" comes to mind... for starters 
I hope that the dub is okay but really I don't care as I prefer the original way I heard it; the Japanese voices were all so great. I want to own all the series that I love in box sets, so I've been snapping them up in R1. No sense in paying exhorbitant prices for the imports. I was beginning to worry that we might not get it here.
I always end up watching the Japanese language versions and use the English ones for when I want to enjoy the video without the distraction of subtitles. You REALLY miss a lot when having to read, and there are so many subtleties of expression, posture, and scenery in Kanon that it makes it well worth watching at least once without having to tear your eyes from it. When you're reading you're not watching. But I REALLY hope they're careful with the subtitles/translations; the two I've seen were quite different. A botched job will read clumsily for this graceful anime.
Anyway, glad to see that ADV is stepping up; they also did a good job with my other number one, Elfen Lied, so I trust that we'll get a nice box, and please, not a boatload of DVDs to have to buy to fill it! 24-episode series can really add up... *shudders at the probable costs of Death Note*

Er, how are they going to title this? Are they going to just have it as "Kanon?" "Kanon 2006?" Are they going to just ignore the (I think) unlicensed first series with Jay Leno Yuuchi?
And they should slap a huge sticker on the last DVD of this, and on the AIR DVDs:
"WARNING: THIS SHOW WILL MAKE YOU CRY. SERIOUSLY."

| Personally I liked the first Kanon better than the remake. The remake, while it showed more 'semi-important' details like the jam, was too long for me to enjoy. Keeping Kanon down to a 13 ep series kept it from being too much of the same thing. Then again, I don't feel Kanon is really a show worth re-watching much, so that could have biased this opinion since I took two very long breaks in my Kanon remake watching because it was starting to get boring. |

Based on the titles given to some recent shows, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they called it "When They Go Uguu", or "Rumbling Stomachs"
Anyway, credit to ADV for picking this up even though, as has already been speculated, it may not be a big moneymaker for them. |

| Wow. Geneon is under the gun, while at the same time, ADV releases Air and acquires the license to the Kanon remake. I'm pretty sure Daryl Surat of AWO is going to have some really funny opinionated remarks in the next episode of the podcast. I can't wait to listen to it when it's posted. I surmise it's going to be hilarious. |

No. I remember removing same line from Wikipedia once (and then had my user page vandalised as a consequence)

"When they Cry" and "Rumbling Hearts" were both pre-existing English titles or subtitles for the properties in question and their use was mandated by the Japanese licensors.
Since Kanon is titled Kanon in English and always has been I fail to see why it should be changed. |

That's kind of the point I was trying to make, but evidently failing badly  Although "Kanon" seems like a perfectly good title, who knows what Engrish monstrosity the licensors might come up with.
BTW, I'll give you Kiminozo but not Higurashi - I didn't think the "When They Cry" title was pre-existing. |
