The article states that contestants must wear costumes from “anime, manga, or Japanese videogames” My question is: are costumes based on American videogames forbidden? Why? Anime cosplayers are afraid to be sweep away by someone wearing a good Cosplay of an American video game character? (Someone with a Master Chief cosplay wearing the official collectors helmet, for example) Rolling Eyes

Because this contest presumably (since it is sponsored by a Japanese TV station) intended to promote *Japanese* entertainment, not just general costume-making skills.
