Thought they were talking about the manhwa Flowers of Evil for a moment there. Got my hopes up.

One of the things that always impressed me about anime/manga is the breadth of the cultural references. How many people over here have even heard of Baudelaire or Les Fleurs du mal? Yet it's apparently well known enough in Japan to have it centered in a manga.

/I own a copy of Les Fleurs du mal. Baudelaire is a probably France's greatest poet, but he's no Keats or Li Po.
//I'll probably buy this manga too. Sounds interesting.

So another con goes by without a Vinland Saga license eh?

Well, I hope Flowers of Evil sells well for Vertical. We need all the healthy manga publishers that we can get.

What's also interesting is that the manhwa I mentioned is also influenced by Baudelaire's Flowers of Evil. That makes Japan and Korea. Although, in the manhwa's case, the work doesn't at all play a center role. Still, the sentiment is there.

I've heard of Baudelaire but I am not really familiar with his work. However, the basic plot of this sounds like generic anime/manga plot #354. Still, I may give it a look just because it's from Vertical and they usually license quality sruff.

It's interesting to see Vertical pick up another ongoing series. One thing I liked about buying from them before was that I knew the stories they started were already complete. No "waiting to see if the mangaka will release a new volume" limbo.

I hope the series does well for them.

Oh god!! This series is so deliciously EVIL!! I love it! Thank you, Vertical. Will preorder as soon as it's available.

The art is nothing to write home about, but Nakamura is pretty badass/annoying/loathsome/awesome/weird.

It may or may not be that well-known in Japan; manga authors often base things on/make reference to some fairly obscure works or subjects.

In any case, this sounds like a twistedly interesting story, and Vertical tend to release good quality titles. I expect I'll be collecting this.

The author may not even be that familiar with the source work, just a passing fondness. Like that Metropolis that Osamu Tezuka based after Fritz Lang's Metropolis just from seeing a single still image of the movie.

Nevertheless, this is not very moe. Laughing

Definitely buying this when it comes out.

Kinda curious how long Aku no Hana will be since it's still ongoing.

Guess I'll add this to the list of things for fall semester. Sounds pretty good. I'm going to try and hit the Vertical panel next weekend. I want to see what else they have in store.
