While I will admit that some of the revelations did leave me scratching my head(this is something I will definitely appreciate more with subsequent viewings), I was very happy with how the show ended. Honestly, I was too distracted with worry concerning the possible fate of one of the characters to really soak in all the explanations being given. Now that I know the fate of everyone, I can go back and re-watch with a more relaxed attitude.
Ergo Proxy, along with Noein and Le Chevalier D'Eon is in my top picks for this year. Thankfully, all 6 volumes are safely released despite Geneon's collapse.
I'm looking forward to going back and watching the whole series again to pick up things I missed, plus I won't have to wait months between the volumes.  |

| I really enjoyed the last volume which had some very amazing visual scenes. I think my favorite is when Real flies above the cloud layer which reminds me of the story of Icarus. There is something very poetic about this series and I am in the process of showing it to my friends and roommates who are not anime fans. I also think it's cool how the subtitles differentiate between Real and Re-L My second viewing in English ( a few volumes behind) is also enjoyable and I look forward to seeing the last episodes again. |

I think that's a pretty blatant reference right there.
Not quite sure how I feel about Ergo Proxy after watching the series again. I like it's, and it's good, but how good? At times there were as many missteps as there were successes.
Compared to its brethren -- RahXephon, Texhnolyze, Serial Experiments Lain, Paranoia Agent -- Ergo Proxy comes up short for a variety of reasons. Substituting homages and obscure references for substance is one of them. (Yes, Dai Sato, we get it: you're well-read.) Hell, it makes the pretentiousness that Anno displays with carelessly tossing Judeo-Christian references about seem minuscule. And this problem is only furthered because a good deal of these homages don't have any relevance to the thematic narrative.
Yet, for its faults, its characters are overall well-composed. I forgot Pino and Raul's relationship, and I found it to be one of the most touching aspects of the show when re-watching it. Raul searching for her and his fittingly anti-climatic death is a sad one. I also liked the added touch that Pino's drawings are so amateur yet genuine.
I think if Vincent had been more consistently interesting as a character I wouldn't have as many doubts...
There's also a bit more material added to the DVD version than the broadcast, from what I remember. Daedalus' final words to Re-l and Kristeva finding Pino are two scenes that stick out like a sore thumb.
I guess I'll have to wait a while before deciding on whether I should sell the DVDs or not... |

Yeah? Interesting ... I've only watched it on DVD and I did notice the last episode was longer than usual ... so perhaps it was cut for time when it was broadcast? |

| I agree with Hellkorn. It's a good series, but nowhere near as good as Texhnolyze or even Ghost in the Shell. The animation hits some high points, and the art is occasionally rather good, but something failed with the pacing. I think it should have, and easily could have, been half the length that it was. |
