Well this is interesting. One of them is connected to FanimeCon up North!
Has anyone gone to that con and how well was that handled? |

I've gone to Fanimecon for six years, and it's my favorite con. It's very friendly. Some disorganization since it's totally fan run so info doesn't get to everyone. Last year the programs were completely messed up because the delivery people delivered it to a staffer's house instead of the con like they were told to. But I really like the atmosphere and the level of friendliness. Hotels go smoothly for me and my friends (we usually stay at a slightly off-site hotel and avoid the ones attached directly to the convention center). Good program synopses outside the showing rooms. Last year they improved the anime showing rooms by raising the screens so that heads didn't block subtitling. Pre-reg usually goes fairly well since we get there on the first day. Area is safe; lots of things to do. Con attendance is about 10-12K. Dealer's room is decent size (although AX has them beat there); no bootlegs. No traffic problems in the hallways; they moved Artists Alley into one of the showrooms.
Did you want to know something specific, or was that enough info? |

No, that was enough.
I think that I'm just among the many who will/are hoping that with these changes of board and staff members, AX will improve. |

Having a staffer from Fanime on the board doesn't mean AX is going to start running like Fanime. The two conventions have entirely different approaches to how they operate. One is very polished and formal, the other is very casual and loose. There's positives and negatives to either approach, but neither is compatible with the other.
I'm sure Mr. Howlett is well qualified beyond his experience with Fanime, and that it probably wasn't even the deciding factor to his selection. |
