Casablanca, huh? Looks like CMX will finally have a crossover shojo hit, if their owners choose to endorse a U.S. release. So I know that the movies are public domain, but are the images of the celebs also unprotected in Japan?

There won't be a US release. Well, not unless CMX are willing to pay off Warner Bros anyway...
Casablanca's copyright may have lapsed in Japan but it's still in full effect in North America and Europe.

Moomintroll: Um, CMX is Warner Bros. Well, Time Warner to be exact.

No offense but who would actually want to read these titles in manga form.

IMO, I prefer a manga version of "Gone with the Wind" than a manga version of Casablanca. I always liked that movie Cool

If any of these titles are ever translated and released here, I'll probably pick up Casablanca and/or Charade just for the novelty value.

Wuthering Heights is actually a 19th century novel with quite a few film adaptions made in the 20th century. Does this article mean to say that the Wuthering Heights manga will be based solely on the 1939 movie adaption and not the original book?

That's right. This manga/DVD set is for the 1939 film, the first Wuthering Heights film with a soundtrack.

That Heathcliff on the front cover is the manga version of Laurence Olivier.

This seems like another case of Japanizing a American concept. Which always ends horribly.

I'd rather a manga version of Wuthering Heights the novel than the movie (especially since I'm fairly certain that the movie cuts out the entire second generation story, like almost all the other WH movies). And that's public domain everywhere so it could easily be released in North America by any company.

Charade is a hilarious movie. I had no idea about that copyright thing...that must be why they could show it in my university's science building without getting in trouble for "public performance."

I'd be interested to see the manga.
