Heh. |
The pacific might have slowed us down for 200 years, but we're finally proceeding with the American frontier. Onward pioneers, to Korea! Then China! Then India! Then... Iran? Hmm, iranian animation could be called "Iranime". Just a thought. |

About chipheads. You probably read your share of cyberpunk novels, do you? Please, sit back and relax, Mr. Data would take care of the rest.
Human body after all is a construction witch does not allow you to fly in space and a very perishable commodity in hard radiation. Only idiots could imagine with their simple mind humans leaving this planet (do enjoy StarTrek).
Besides you obviously don't know a single thing about the risks involved to put objects in your body, especially objects directly linked to your nervous system at a system level (you speak of virtual reality put into your head? that's system level for me). Nor you know the number of chemicals you had to take daily to help these objects remain in your body.
Dreaming is one thing, writing novels is other, ignoring reality and calling people names based on your sheer stupidity is another thing again.
Oh, wait, the US army plans to put chips in the soldier's head! And NASA plans to send people to Mars.
I has to be wrong. |
Wow
So that article I read about some guy inserting some chip or something into his hand to work as the key to his house so he never loses it was a lie? All those science shows about trying to make artificial limbs are lies also? Chips put into animals so we don't lose them? I see this moving on to children
I didn't say I'd do it. I thought the suggestion about the PS 5 was insanity (it was more a "there's nowhere else to go to improving gaming technology but that). The whole idea is bonkers to me, however, there will always be people who see it as cutting edge. Johnny Mneumonic was out there, but who knows what science might pull together to help people with memory issues? My Math teacher in Jr. High had 20/20 vision but wore glasses because with them his sight was improved even more. Most people would be happy with 20/20-he wanted better. There will always be those types.
I'm stupid to suggest if (big huge if, I know) they came up with an artificial eye to help those with impared vision, some people wouldn't have their regular eyes replaced if it was an improvement? I'm someone who is standing way over here on the far side away from those people who have all rushed out to have their laser eye surgery (Don't know if laser surgery helps astigmatism, but lasers near one's eyes is scary) I've heard the horror stories of the people who have had a bad job done. I also understand it's not permanent so you're basically paying for being glasses-free for a few yrs until the aging process continues to deteriorate your eyes & you need it again or you're in glasses. There seem to be lots of people getting laser eye surgery.
Not to mention medical science has been sticking stuff in us for ages. I believe artificial knees & hips & the like aren't made from cadavers. I seem to recall a birth control menthod where they insert several tubes into a gal's underarm. What's a pacemaker but a machine inserted into a body?
Do I see people jacking into the internet like in The Matrix? Not really. But when I was a child & they were all taking about air cars & no more diseases because science would cure them all no one was talking about anything like the internet or faxes. They were warning about Big Brother watching us & all, but no one was saying they could know practically everything about your genetic make-up just from some spit on a soda can either or that we'd be solving crimes with it.
I actually suspect we'll all have our DNA typed at birth someday. More & more states are passing the law that convicted felons have to submit a sample & it's solving lots of crimes. I'm sure we're just a certain number of elections away from someone's bright idea that if everyone's DNA were on record they could ID missing persons faster. Or if you're unconscious, they could pull up you info & know how to help you at the hospital. Maybe not in my lifetime, but it's coming. Next I suspect the military (if they aren't already) will collect the DNA of all their people. Law enforcement, government workers would probably be next. It's coming. |
