Window fills maybe 1/5 of my screen.
Everyone else who has problems have a fully updated Flash Player 9?
Know I had problems on other sites until I manually updated mine.
Right click -> About -> Player Download Center |
If you are using IE, go to the bottom-right hand corner to the "Change Zoom Level." Choose 125% or 150% depending on the size of your screen. Granted it's not perfect Full-Screen, but at least it's bigger. |

| Well, the video pauses for about fifteen seconds for every three or four seconds of playback, so no way I'm using this, but that's my connection's fault. Still, I'd love to see a Youtube-like option instead of pure streaming (which I hate with a firey, burning, flamey passion for anything other than live video). |

| I must say, that first episode was very awesome. I own all of FLCL on dvd (and the special edition vol. 3 with limited edition box) and it look s like I will be owning all the dvd's to this series as well. I think ADV's anime viewing service is pretty cool as well. I hope they keep this going strong and similar services like this one help to promote more growth in the anime industry in a positive way. Kudos to ADV Films. You got my money for how many volumes it takes for this series to come out in it's entirety. |

To me, it does not sound as good news as ANN readers believe... |

| I don't mind team gurren (it kind of makes more sense than brigade which sounds more militaryish) however I do think they should stick with "kick reason to the curb and do the impossible" it's like a tagline for the entire show |

This is a great service, in theory. I only have one major problem with it so far: I was trying to watch Gurren Lagann, and very shortly after the earthquake started, the video just stopped playing -- like I pressed pause. I tried refreshing the page and all kinds of different things, but whenever it got near that part again, it went back to the menu. I guess I'll try to watch it again later tonight or tomorrow, though...
Also, just two suggestions:
1) I like the high resolution, but it would be nice if the bitrate was raised a little. I understand there are limits to what you can (or should) do with streaming video, but maybe we could have the option for a higher bitrate? Or is that a reason to buy the DVD version?
2) More subtitled anime would be nice, as well, but that's just a personal preference (again, it could detract from DVD sales if all the shows were subtitled on the streaming service, though...).
...If that bug gets worked out, this'll be great. |

Even if it's a complete failure, when it comes to the revenue and generating excitement for the show, it's really cool they're trying something different. I assume it was recent, but I read an article where the head of(or one of the top execs) of ADV was talking about what he tried with the company and it sounded very sincere and honest. While yes they're trying to make money, there is a little bit sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.

Isn't that really just from the fansubbers though? Copying the fansubs word for word would seem a bit awkward while changing such popular lines also strikes a chord. Not to mention, isn't it different between each group as well? Can't really put a finger on what's right or wrong.
And uh, the site looks great with the Gurren-Lagann theme, but doesn't Yoko have....a problem with her pants? I'm not REALLY looking since it's staring me in the face as I was writing this post, and I already stared at her for 27 episodes, but that's rather funny if you catch it. I don't remember ever noticing that about her in the anime, heh.

Minor problems that need to be fixed:
The subtitles are in a separate stream and it seems this makes them highly prone to desync. I don't quite understand why this is at the moment, but it seems like this is something for a future version of the site where you can change between dub and sub (or sign sub track). The subtitle stream timings definitely need to be fixed in the second half of the show.
Comments:
The translation was for the most part fine, despite what those who watched the subs seem to want to believe. There were a handful of lines which had mistakes and some could have been improved with a different phrasing, but overall, it is complaining for the sake of complaining. |

I was able to watch the entire episode no problem. There were slight subtitle lags at times, but they were slight enough that they didn't disrupt the show.
Yes, the themes are subtitled. |

With the exception of that one line, the fansub version is on par with the official ADV. Given Kamina's odd speeches and catch-phrases I doubt it's a mistranslation on either parties side, but more of a different interpretation (the spirit and meaning is there, even if it's said in a different manner). And while the change is slightly offsetting, it's definitely not enough to not make me want to get the DVDs when they come out (it's only one line out of, what, a few hundred?) |

And since ADV is an American company, people downloading it in South America or Europe really don't effect them. | Yes they do. The fact that fansubs will be made available to those other countries means fansubs will be made. And that's not good. Maybe some people missed what Mr Sevakis was saying, but one of the most important points he made was to kill regional distribution and think globally.
But I have to admit, I giggled at the thought of how American anime fans were crying "where is my free animu ;_____;" with the rest of us just a few weeks ago, but now I'm already seeing "oh well, Europe etc., you're asking for the impossible". |
