Never heard of the series.

*ducks.*

But yes, it's a good start. It's promoted on their turf, for one. Secondly, they're doing it in a timed fashion, though, so the episode is only going to be available for a certain time, correct?

But eh, still with an attempt, not everyone is pleased. >.>;

I may not watch it though, I prefer dubs, and I don't really care to read subtitles as of yet. I might just watch the first few episodes, then wait for the DVDs to come out if I really feel like buying it.

I've always liked ADV, I think most of my anime has come from their company. I just purchased all of Cromartie High School. xD

I don't know about you, but right about now I'm willing to give ADV my first-born child for this service.

what? This is inconcievable. An anime company streaming subbed episodes. I must be reading it wrong.

Without being crude, there's no way to point it out(but maybe that will do it). I don't know if there's supposed to be something else going on there that I can't adequately see.

They're a bit loose on her? the only thing I could see was that her leg seems to go straight through the belt, but other than that...

Mmm, yaaasss, that's the reason I have had to change the skin to Kurau. I 've got children that sometimes look over my shoulder here. ¬_¬

xD Geeze....it had to go this far, didn't it...

This is kind of going off topic, is it not?

It's barely even noticeable in the Lagann skin, but that's why we offer people the ability to change skins.

Yes. Please get back on topic. I just couldn't handle another 5 pages of people desperately trying to deduce what he was referring to.

It's also debatable whether or not that's actually a cameltoe. I mean, unless you were looking for one. Anime hyper

*Bzzzttt*, Wrong. I know that's what you are arguing, getting tv time instead of airing stuff on the internet. What I am arguing is that for the most part, anime does crappy on TV. Sure, TTGL is probably a pretty good show for TV, but what I'm getting at is that I would imagine EVERY company would love to have all anime they license on TV with tons of viewers weekly. This is not the case however which is why the internet is a good option since it is most likely, vastly cheaper.

OK. Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant the first time. But how is this option cheaper for them? Cartoon Network and YTV would be paying ADV for the title, not the other way around. ADV's desire to confine their titles to their Anime Network platform is solely because they want to centralize control of exhibition for their titles, which I really don't understand.

It seems you weren't following my example with "moe comedy blah blah" either. With regular american TV programming, tons of completely bland, bad or ridiculous shows still receive enough viewers to stay on the air. In all cases for anime except for a handful of extreme popular cases in the past years, none do extremely well. Regardless of actual content and how good the anime may be, it's anime; a niche market that seems to barely be able to support itself on TV.

I'd go into my "anime actually is successful on Canadian TV, unlike American TV" rant, but that would be going too far off topic.

Regardless of the ratings that a show gets, a television airing will still give a show far more exposure than ADV's streaming endeavour. The only people who are going to find GL streaming online are active members of the online anime community. On television, mainstream audiences who have even just a passing interest in anime will be exposed to the series. Even if the ratings aren't great (which won't necessarily be the case), it wouldn't really matter so long as Adult Swim is willing to give it a timeslot.

I applaud ADV for finally stepping up and doing something while all the other companies seem to enjoy sitting there doing nothing.

But did they have to do it with yet another mecha show? I'm so sick of mecha and it's really one genre that needs to disappear. Mecha hasn't been relevant since Escaflowne aired in 1996.

actually it's more of a series for people who don't like the mecha genre. it's not emo ,and it's from the creator of Furi Kuri... unless of course you consider spoiler[mechas getting punched out of space/time, throwing planets, galaxies, etc.] cliche. in my personal opinion, it's the best series of 2007.

Ideon did the whole overpowered universe destroying mech thing 30 years ago, it's nothing new. I personally think it's one of the weaker series of the year. It's just a bunch of yelling and fighting without much plot. It's perfect for 8 year old kids with short attention spans.

Yeah, this is perfect for ADV to launch the service with.

There it goes again. Already comparing commercial subtitles against fan subtitles. Are you watching Anime only to read subtitles, or read subtitle to understand the foreign language dialog?
In most cases, companies have good track record on subtitled videos to all audience, not just Japanophile Otakus. So give it a rest with "fansub = good, commercial sub=bad" notion already!

I have nothing against commercial subs as a whole. I dislike poorly done subs in all forms. When the timing is sufficiently bad that I have to go back and rewatch a clip of video to find out what was said, then something is seriously wrong. When a line is only on the screen for a fraction of a second because another character speaks and I can't read all of the first line, then the subbing is seriously screwed up. All of this applies to both fansubs and commercial subs. It's more tolerable in the former than the latter - I'm not paying for fansubs.

Oh, and I resent being labeled a 'Japanophile Otaku'.

Regardless, the subbing quality on this is far below anything I would accept on DVD. If I saw this level of quality on a commercial DVD, I would immediately suspect a bootleg. Failing that, I would attempt to return the DVD, and failing that sell it to someone else. I certainly wouldn't be buying anything more in the series. If they want my money, they have to earn it. I will not fork over money for crap.

I apologize for labeling you "Japanophile Otaku". It was not a right label. Anyway, I see this as a trade-off. Since I'm not paying for Anime Network's online service, I'm more forgiving on subtitles. I've seen my share of poorly subtitled J-Drama videos from TV as just as everyone else who lives area with large Japanese expatriate population.
For DVD's, you have right to complain about quality of subtitle. However, that alone can't justify overall quality of the DVD in order to get refund from a retailer. It's better off making complains directly to companies like ADV about the subtitle quality so that they can either release or exchange for better version.

On the side note, I'll reserve "Japanophile Otaku" to people who watch nothing but fansubs; who think they know "Japanisu" like native speakers by watching only subtitled videos; make knit-picks on translation on every subtitled lines of any Anime video or whatever Japanese shows; who think Japan is superior to everyone else.
