| Bulletproof Monk was something CYF signed on to when he was still an unknown, and when he was trying to get as much exposure here as possible. It was fun for what it was, but if anyone had higher expectations of it, they were clearly idiots. "The One", which the director of this adaptation first did, was far more lame and mediocre. |

Totally agree with you, the roles Chow Yun Fat played in Hollywood movies are very different from those he played in Hong Kong movies.
Apart from Anna and the King, his Hollywood roles are all very commercial, e.g. Pirates of the Caribbean. While his roles in Hong Kong movies are generally more serious.

Well, his Hong Kong movies really differentiate in that a handful of them benefit from the symbiotic relationship he has with John Woo, and HK movies have significantly different dynamics that called for different things from this guy. He also had presence in comedy and soap opera things as well. The God of Gamblers sequels, A Better Tomorrow II, and many other examples exist where the actual artistic merit of them has not prevented them from being commercially successful.
However in Hollywood he is more or less a caricature of himself; Chow can perform, but I think its fair to say his western efforts don't give him a lot to work with. Isn't it awkward anyway that you would call his Hollywood movies "commercially oriented"? I don't actually know if some Hollywood producers make movies regardless of whether they will profit, but that seems like an absurd notion. That's the whole idea of making a movie. So people will go to see it. |

On the upswing, I don't think the writers/directors intended on playing their version of Master Roshi that way...and seeing how most of his antics probably didn't make it into the U.S. TV version - in addition to being downplayed as the series progressed - it's possible that the movie's Master Roshi might be intended to be halfway respectable. |
How is this the "upswing"? I like my Master Roshi they Toriyama inended him - as a pervert . |

hey for those who want to stop the movie....
NOT HAPPENING!!!!
Bring it on, I totally see in the future a cg Battle against Vegeta (or piccolo, is he the main enemy here?) on 3d with buildings being destroyed and crap blowing up left and right...
after all, that is DBZ all about eh?
Just like SPIDERMAN 3: ADVENT CHILDREN
Oh and some news here ZAC EFFRON confirmed that he has been cast as NARUTO in the future Hollywood version of the movie "NARUTO THE AMAZING NINJA KID" starring OZZY Osbourne as OROCHIMARU, Dolly parton as TSUNADE and Devon Aoki as SAKURA, also Hayden Christensen is Sasuke and Johnny Deep as Luffy the pirate as a Cameo. |

Meh, I rather like him when he's firing a shitload of guns.
Hard Boiled is one of his best movies bar none. The gunplay alone is worth it. |

| I liked Replacement Killers, but The Corrupter seemed more like a Marky Mark vehicle than a Chow Yun Fat film. |
