Not completely anyway.
I'm just a little wary about this movie coming out on August...But hey, anything goes.
I keep thinking that kid is Chow's son/grandson...but I don't know about his personal life. |

| tyger: Yeah, FOX rushing it, because they don't want to pay the WGA is the only thing which concerns me, too. |

You know, with the WGA on strike that seriously makes me wonder about the quality of the script in this film. Not that I'm expecting something spectacular but maybe this explains teto, the lack of capsule cars, and to a lesser extent why they aren't having Justin chatwin wear a goku wig. They may just be pulling this all from thin air and praying it makes bank.
PS: for those asking, Mai was emperor pilaf's henchman in dragonball and DBGT, her partner was a ninja dog named Shuu. |

Based on blurry shots of some people standing around some rocks in costumes that are difficult to make out?
That's an amazing bit of clairvoyance you've got going on.

No, you can't at all. There's a misconception that somehow it's valuable to look at like, a single blurry shot from a set of a movie and that's enough to proclaim one way or the other whether or not it's going to be any good, but that seems to be solely the domain of internet types just aching to proclaim everything sucks.
Why does the film coming out in August bother you? |

I dunno...Could it be the fact that they only officially announced it a couple months ago, and haven't started shooting until now? Maybe it's the lack of big names attached to it? How about the lack of any major interviews, which we're at least getting with WB for Speed Racer? Oh, and the fact that they're trying to use a story arc which combines elements of the old and new shows sounds like a plot disaster to me. They should do DB or Z, not both at the same time. And really, how the hell does Mexico=Japan or China?! |

Well, it is a cartoon. He wasn't wrong. |

To be fair, China has a place that looks like just about everywhere. I am sure there are places that look just like Mexico, as well as just about every other country. Much in the same manner that the United States has a wide variety backdrops. I mean if your not a botanist, you most likely won't be able to tell.
Also to be fair, the anime backdrops were not all that detailed. Never read the manga so I can't comment on those. |

I still personally think that the whole thing is a big mistake. I can't comprehend how you can take a cheesy action anime like Dragonball Z and turn it into a decent live action movie. Every time I try to think about it, I can't picture it looking good. it's impossible.
If the movie succeeds, then more power to the franchise. If it fails, FUNimation is gonna have to do a lot of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" routines at future conventions whenever someone brings it up.
Random example:
Fan #14664: Hey Lance! I just saw the live action Dragonball Z movie! And it SUCKED!
Lance: I can neither confirm nor deny that. |

| Is FUNimation involved with the production of this movie at all? I mean beyond just giving the rights, do they have any pull in how this movie turns out? |

Also to add that some of the pics of the landscapes in Mexico can fit some of the scenes for Dragonball rather well. There are a bunch of pics on that Mexican Movieland website. For fights scenes and such, I think they would do well. Not to mention, there are some absolutely gorgeous settings.
And like others have said, you can't judge so much on the pictures now. For one, they're not in a very good quality. Two, they are still in the freakin' production process. Nothing is ever really told until they get to post-production and after that, especially after all the editing--there's still so much to do and it's all very complex especially as many people there is on this particular production. |

LOL, I had forgotten who she was also, and I asked in another forum a while back. She's one of Pilaf's henchmen...or would that be henchwomen? |

I haven't seen DB in a really long time, but if memory serves me right, doesn't most of it (at least at the beginning) take place in a sort of desert? I know all of the fight scenes in DBZ take place in barren sorts of deserts or wastelands, so when I first heard Mexico I actually thought that would be a good choice. |
