I wonder what kind of corporate sponsorship they could throw into this movie? Maybe they'll have Goku getting knocked into a Coke machine and have cans of Coke roll out? |

Maybe it's his new move? Coooooo-caaaaaaaaa-cooooooooo-laaaaaaaa-HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The pictures are absolutely terrible. I'm not going to judge the movie by them, but there's not even a point to look at these pictures at all. 100million budget? Is that a confirmed amount? I know gas is getting more expensive but...even for a movie, that sounds like a pretty damn good budget.
I definitely want to see it. On dvd however, free if I still work at blockbuster or for a 5$ rental if I quit. Considering how badly I feel this will be, the movie can only surprise me in a good way. |

Uh. It IS a cartoon. A Japanese cartoon.

Well it is based on a kids show.

At this point I don't care what they do. I'm gonna love it. |

Funimation is the american outlet, that bought the rights to repackage and sell the merchandise,of the Shueisha and Bird Studios animation,of Dragonball. They have no say in what Chow does with the movie.America was one of the last places to aquire the Dragonball series. We got it a little late. This is one of the reasons,Jojo's bizarre adventure, never came here in full force. The author didn't want his work tampered with (that, and a lot of copyrighted names would be changed.)Toriyama-san sold out a while ago,IMO.
Those leaked movie pics, make the movie, look like Mortal Kombat.I hope Steven Chow knows what he's doing.Chow certainly has a lot of experience. The end of Kung-fu hustle had a,dragonball feel to it.I looking foward to the movie. |

Oh okay, because the way he made it sound, it sounded like if this is a flop, FUNimation is the one that's going to take the heat. |

I dunno...Could it be the fact that they only officially announced it a couple months ago, and haven't started shooting until now? Maybe it's the lack of big names attached to it? How about the lack of any major interviews, which we're at least getting with WB for Speed Racer? Oh, and the fact that they're trying to use a story arc which combines elements of the old and new shows sounds like a plot disaster to me. They should do DB or Z, not both at the same time. And really, how the hell does Mexico=Japan or China?! |
That production schedule isn't all that quick, honestly. It's about a year, which is what total production time would probably take for something like this.
Also you didn't really address what I said at all - aside from being the last month you can release any sort of summer movie, what's wrong with the August release date? Unless you know nothing at all about production schedules and just "think it sounds soon". |

In the industry, shooting a film will usually take 40 - 60 days depending on the length. For Star Wars Ep III, they had a 60 day shoot schedule. Post production in the editing booth will typically take another 60 days depending on the level of special effects, and the soundtrack is done within 2 or 3 weeks.
Making a movie doesn't take that long, and when the MPAA (or 20th Century Fox) negotiates a release date with the creators, it has to fit in the correct time slot. Many other movies dominate previous dates. So just because it will be released in August doesn't mean it's going to be a shitty production.
At least not while I've been on set... |

If you want Fantastic Four, sure. If you want X-Men or Spider-Man, that's a different story.

Like January, August tends to be a dumping ground for films which could be a hit-or-miss, but which generally fall in the latter category.

But the planning for it was at least three years...FOX has had the rights to DBZ for a while, but only acted on it recently. |

I think to enjoy this movie, you will need a sense of humour.
So I guess everyone who is nitpicking about the locations, the actors' nationalities or the release date, and everyone who cannot deal with an actor referring to a cartoon as a cartoon, is going to hate it.
No idea whether this movie will be good or bad, but I guess you probably shouldn't be expecting a serious, realistic action movie, or the story to be 100% faithful to the manga or anime. |

| Okay, you got Caucasians playing the lead Asian characters, and everyone else is Asian.....I see a problem here..... Why give the leads to Caucasians and then do that? Sure, if they wanted to make it all or most caucasians...sure, but in my eyes, it just seems like this movie is saying that America can do better at DB than the Asians can. |

No, that's September. August is considered the final month of the summer movie season; at least the first few weeks of it. |
