And you aren't calling me an idiot who thinks the US is a bunch of rapists from misinterpreting my quotes? Complain to Canada why we won't allow rape porn, not a poster. We view it as obscene hence why we made it illegal. I'm not pushing my ethics, it's just what Canada believes in. |
Is it what Canada believes in or what the ruling majority of the government believe in? I'm sure plenty of normal citizens would agree but I must say you seem very presumptuous in how you seem to be speaking for all of Canada in your post. |
Well if the government is functioning the way it should then yes, the law will reflect the views of the people. Of course the logistics of democracy and law-making mean that doesn't always happen. I would expect that the vast majority of both Canadians and Americans would object to rape porn. It's tough to say though about opinions on whether it should actually be illegal since you certainly don't have to think it's okay to think it should be legal.
I must agree about mistress_reebi's comments though. It is a generalization to claim that because it is the law "Canada" thinks it is obscene and should be illegal. |

| Quote: | | Critical Mass Video, the adult label of Right Stuf Entertainment, brought out the Cool Devices: The DVD Collection with all 11 episodes of the series last September. It was previously available on VHS from NuTech Digital. Words Worth was also originally licensed by NuTech; Media Blasters' adult-oriented Kitty Media division released the entire series on a single DVD on July 17. |
But what changed that they were ok as vhs but not on dvd? Increased clarity? Nu-Tech paid the customs people hush money? |

Customs don't have time to check everything (and, indeed, aren't aware of everything that's being imported) so a lot of stuff they'd ban if they knew about it gets through by default.
So it's possible the VHS edition wasn't blacklisted for the simple reason that nobody checked it that time around.
It's also possible that the guidelines have changed since then or simply that two different customs officers came to two different conclusions based on the same material. |

Thanks
I asked this before & it got lost in the Canada vs whoever stuff
Oh-we do have dill chips.
Not from the big players like Lays, but the smaller chip companies that offer all kinds of interesting flavors I don't dare try.
I loved Doritos putting out a mystery flavor. I wasn't going there for nothing. At least give us a clue on what's inside-I went for my usual selections. |

It tasted exactly like a cheeseburger. Not just a little. A lot. |

Which has to make you wonder about the quality of cheeseburgers out at restaurants if a chip (Doritos no less) can match the flavor that well. And yes, they really did taste like cheeseburgers you'd get out somewhere. There are also plenty of smaller more local companies that make all sorts of weird chip flavors. I get 2-3 monthly mailings of catalogs from various niche stores that carry stuff like that. I've seen dill chips, pickle flavored chips, ketchup flavored chips, clam flavored chips, and many more. So if you know where to look in America you can very easily find those fabled ketchup flavored chips. |

This list is not a cumulative update of everything that's been banned. It just covers things released since the previous one. If the VHS version was put on the list when it was first released in the U.S., and since then, never specifically cleared, then it's still banned. |

With respect to the fact that certain jurisdictions practice liberalism in different ways, I called out misstress_reebi's comment as Canada being more liberal as full of it as if to justify what customs does to consumer's mail and their choice to watch things that are obviously fiction.
This reminds me of a rant someone made after crossing the border into Canada and had their laptop inspected on arrival. The following made me laugh, but I'll omit the picture as it was definitely not work safe: | Quote: | The second image he stumbles on involved flying dildos. I was told that this was not considered obscene because it was clearly 'surreal'. *phew!*
The third image he found, seemed normal enough, but very unfortunately for me, was translated by Sayo. "Big Sis!" caught the officer's eye. At this point, I'm told that this is very borderline stuff. So he decides to open the next image in the set and says "That's it, I can't allow this computer into Canada. This is incest and considered obscene.".
They have now SEIZED my laptop. I offer to delete ALL my images, but they refuse, claiming I can easily recover them if I wanted. I even suggest to overwrite the files, but they say they can't do that.
I'm given 2 options...
1) Come back to the same Customs port of entry upon leaving Canada (which was not my plan). They will escort me to US Customs to ensure that I do not re-enter Canada.
2) Call FedEx to pick it up and export it back to the USA (which requires an FCC permit, commercial invoice, EIN numbers, etc, etc, etc...)
Additionaly, I'm told that if I was not currently living in the USA, the laptop would have been seized and *destroyed* at Customs!
LUCKILLY, he stopped where he did. Some 2x2=Shinobuden, Midori No Hibi and even a beast doujin were coming up that probably would've landed me in jail!
After about 1 hr being stuck at customs, I miss my flight and have to rebook by connecting through another city.
I'm now back in the USA, with laptop in hand, and a new perspective about how anal Canada Customs can really be. | Now, I can't tell whether or not this is sarcasm, but... | Psycho 101 wrote: | | If you want to belong to something that really teaches tolerance then convert to Buddhism. | as far as I understood it, it was the subjugation of human desire under the premise of freeing one from suffering.
