What I found most hilarious is the *other* quotes in his clip - just from what I could figure out, on top of Gaara, he threw Ralph Waldo Emerson, John Calvin, and a line from Virgil's Aeneid o_0;;;

Holy crap, that kid is more literate than I am.

Lesson 1: If you like an anime, don't use quotes from that anime to threaten people.
Lesson 2: If you choose to do so, don't freakin do it near where I live, idiot.

Bail doesn't work like that. You give the police a large sum of money and then you get it back after the trial, assuming you show up for the trial. It's basically insurance.

Sorry for being off topic, I just felt the need to clear up a common misconception. Rolling Eyes

So... if you're 18 and watch Naruto... It's given that you're immature enough to do this crap. Who the hell watches that show when you're 18?

*sigh*
that's still an absurd amount of money demanded as a deposit for something so trivial... In my eyes at least. I wonder, what will be his punishment if he is found 'guilty' of something?

I don't think it's likely, but theoretically, both are punishable by up to a year in prison. Probation or a fine is going to be much more likely.

Hahaha!! Looks like the 'Naru-tards' are at it again.

I guess folks are taking what they see a little too far. Oh gawd. If you want to act stupid just leave anime out it.

Goodness, I hate these people!

If you're gonna do something stupid, don't talk about it.

His parents should've let him stay in jail for a few days.

Bringing a Death Note to school is one thing. Saying that you will actually get revenge on a Youtube video is quite another.

It sounds like he needs help, and not the sort a prison can readily provide. I am, of course, talking about a girlfriend.

There has to be at least one girl in Connecticut who likes Naruto, no?

Ah, the internet. An amplifier of your own lack of judgement that is heard 'round the world. Think twice before you upload, kids!

Um, I'm 25 and I watch Naruto. I'm also quite mature, at least enough not to stereotype people over something as pointless as what they watch.

Not to sound like I'm defending someone who is A) an idiot and B) clearly not of sound mind, but I do think everyone is having a little too much fun attacking Naruto and not nearly enough denouncing someone who made a fairly clear threat from the non-anime/referential quotes. I mean, read this part from the article again:
Quote:
a warning to Grasso students to "Beware All Those Who Cross My Path […] On March 19, 2008 THE END IS HERE.”

While that doesn't specifically say "I'm coming to mow ya'll down with my boomstick" it is quite hostile and clearly threatening. Actually, this sounds, at least from the article, like more of a serious incident than the previously reported Death Note one. Neither Death Note nor Naruto caused these incidents and I think it is important to remember that just because Naruto is insanely popular with some admittedly "eccentric" fans, the real issue here is a person who is making a threat.

Also, must we make these artificial rules about shows being taboo to watch or enjoy past a certain age? Is there something wrong with an older person watching a show intended for a younger audience? Why limit ourselves to just the shows made for our gender/age group/whatever?

All that being said, I really wish all of these idiots who want to express their anger would stop doing it with anime-related actions. Damn baka-brains aren't going to help the already shaky R1 anime industry.
