When designing a Web page (or anything for that matter), never ever use Comic Sans MS fer Chrissakes. And you don't need some retarded wallpaper to make yourself look cool and artsy, or whatever.

Uhh, not that you don't have a point here but I think he needs to work on the whole wanting to kill everyone thing before he tackles website design issues.

That and his mad capitalization skillz... Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

This may be off topic, but are you saying that you're immature and lacking common sense?

I was referring to the earlier post when someone said he should know better because of his age... I've seen 14 yo's who had more common sense than this guy. But he's obviously so far gone... oh well.

And to the poster who said he could plea insanity and get off without a hitch, it doesn't work like that. If you plea insanity, and the plea is accepted, you go to the insane asylum until they say you're fit for society again.

I already knew what you meant. I was poking fun at how your post could be mis-interpreted.

As to insanity, Boston Legal is airing here in New Zealand, and the current storyline is a woman pleading temporary insanity. Get to avoid prison AND the sanatorium.

Anyway, I am happy with the outcome of this event, or non-event as the case may be. What intrigues me is how the mainstream U.S. media has not picked up on all this, not to mention the many previous incidents.

Perhaps we have to wait for an Anime fan to kill someone in the name of their favourite show, for the news hounds to descend and tear Anime to shreds. Scary thought, isn't it? A single murder in the name of Anime, and fans could become as vilified as paedophiles.

So I am exaggerating slightly, but it is food for thought.

Because the stories aren't too catchy enough.

Some Otakukin wannabe tries to be like Cho and go VTECH? Meh.

A whole school revolts against some idiot because he sings the opening song to Lucky Star? In drag? Roll cameras, we're taping this shit!!

Now unlike the Death note thread I can agree with this kid being expelled. Well that is if it was really a threat. He was probably just going to bring everyone at the school some ramen or something.

According to this the legal drinking age in Connecticut is twenty-one.

Um, I'm 25 and I watch Naruto. I'm also quite mature, at least enough not to stereotype people over something as pointless as what they watch.

I thought you were older-more in your 30's. You've always come off pretty mature in your posts.
I sort of watch Naruto (I turn it on & am in the same room, but I glazed over...around that Orochimaru attacking the village.) I watch, but there's not really any emotional attachment any longer. If the entire case were nuked, I'd miss Gaara, & probably Kakashi & Iruka, but the rest? It's not like the Saiyuki guys where I care about stuff happening & it's probably the general nature of massive shonen (somewhat bland to appeal to the largest audience possible like Denny's), but I do watch so the original poster needs to add 30 yrs to that estimate of 18 yr olds.

I saw a comment in Creem once denouncing the same idea-putting down bands by saying no one over a certain age can like them is just pathetic.

Terrorist threats are a big deal in this day & age. Gone are the days when one could, in a moment of passion, say "I'll get you" or "You'll get yours!" Because we've seen the horrors at Columbine, or the wonderful local incident where a guy named Huberty stormed out of his house with a rifle telling his wife (who did nothing to stop him) "I'm going to hunt humans" & shot a bunch of people at a San Ysidro McDonalds, threats are taken far more seriously now. Can anyone here laughing at this person's impotence actually say the guy didn't have the means to make good on his threats? If people had laughed this off, would we have been reading about another school shooting or mall shooting after this deadline?

Keep it to yourself. You may get an iota of satisfaction screaming "I'll kill you!" at someone you're upset with, but why not just go play a videogame & envision the monsters as the people you're mad at, or listen to some good angry music to get it all out of your system & start the next day fresh? Don't let all the little things pile up. Vent often & in private. You know certain people are going to get under your skin, so just accept that & give yourself the satisfaction of knowing total jerks will probably get theirs somewhere with their stupid behavior.

When my husband would piss me off, I'd listen to a bunch of angry metal talking about stomping or abusing the person (Under My Wheels-Alice Cooper, for example) & be fine a few minutes/hours later depending on the size of the incident. Watch Naruto & imagine the person you're mad at suffering the attacks, but don't put it out on the net where everyone you know & don't know can see your stupidity.

This guy really was asking to be locked up.

Errr...The UK has the legal age of drinking at 18, we also have 24 hour drinking in pubs, bars and clubs. We also happen to have a fair fewer gun crimes %pop wise as well...

Perhaps before looking at drinking laws maybe weapon laws should be looked at first.

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/firearms1.html

from first pdf on the list.

Quote:
Firearm offences

Provisional statistics are available for recorded crimes involving firearms other
than air weapons for the 12 months ending December 2006. Firearms are taken to
be involved in an offence if they are fired, used as a blunt instrument against a
person, or used in a threat.

In the 12 months to December 2006 there were provisionally 9,513 firearm
offences. This was a decrease of 1,761 offences, or 16 per cent, compared to the
12 months ending December 2005.

Table 5 Firearms offences (excluding air weapons): Level of injury in England and
Wales

Nature of injury Year ending Dec 05 Year ending Dec 06 % change
Fatal injuries 53 57 +8
Serious injuries 483 424 -12
Slight injuries 3,482 2,491 -28
Threats 5,355 5,020 -6
No injuries 1,901 1,521 -20
Total 11,274 9,513 -16

The number of offences involving firearms resulting in fatal injuries increased from
53 in the year to December 2005, to 57 in the year to December 2006. Serious
and slight injuries both decreased, by 12 and 28 per cent respectively in the year
to December 2006 compared to the year to December 2005. There was a 26 per
cent decrease in the total number of offences involving firearms resulting in injury
in the 12 months to December 2006 (2,972 offences) compared to the previous 12
months (4,018 offences).

Table 6 Firearms offences (excluding air weapons): Type of weapon in England and
Wales

Weapon type Year ending Dec 05 Year ending Dec 06 % change
Shotgun 622 590 -5
Handgun 4,727 4,191 -11
Rifle (1) 74 61 -18
Imitation firearm (2) 3,317 2,448 -26
Unidentified firearm 1,404 1,269 -10
Other firearm (3) 1,130 954 -16
Total 11,274 9,513 -16
1. Because of the small number of offences involving rifles, the percentage change should be treated with caution.
2. Imitation handguns, which are converted to fire bullets like handguns, are counted as handguns.
3. Other firearms include CS gas, disguised firearms, machine guns, pepper spray, stun guns and other specified
weapons (majority are paintball guns).

There were 4,191 offences where handguns were used in the year to December
2006, a decrease of 536 offences (down 11 per cent) compared with the year
ending December 2005. Imitation weapons were used in 2,448 offences, a
decrease of 869 offences (down 26 per cent).

I suggest you look through the PDF as it is far easier to read than in this format.

basically though there were ≈9513 cases over 12 months involving firearms, a case counts as involving a firearm, including imitation weapons, if one is discharged, used to bludgeon or used to threaten. 57 fatal shootings in that same time period.

UK population is ≈60,776,238...

57 / 60776238 x 100% = 9.37x10^-5% chance of getting killed in that period with a gun, serious injuries are slightly higher in the region of 424...not much change in the % for that.

There is a 24% chance of being the victim of crime in the UK...only a 9.37x10^-5 chance of being killed by a gun.

Does anyone have the US stats for this kind of thing? Could be interesting to compare.

I think that anything threatening anyone, wether this Youtube video, a fake Death Note, or whatever, should be taken seriously, no matter what. Though some of the punishments I have read about seem to go a little bit to far. But, about making anime look bad in the media, unfortunately it most likely would happen if a bad situation is connected with anime just because most people view it as something meant towards kids. But we know that's not true. Wink

Thank you for not using wikipedia. Smile So many people use it a lot in these forums, and you are one of the few I've seen who responded without using it. Sorry for this stupid side note, but it made me happy. Very Happy

And he's not the only one, believe me. There was one guy who in a way was stalking my exgf, and when she retaliated against him (in an immature way I might add), his dad threatened to call the police and take her to court with whatever kind of stuff he had going on in his head. Anyways we looked up his myspace and we found more incriminating stuff against him than they would have had against her. And he's a defiler of Rukia.
