Thanks for the clarification.

I thought the Stratos 4 dub was okay, even though they did use a cast of 'non-veteran' actors to dub the main characters.

Hopefully that will not be the case for Rocket Girls.

Rocket Girls has been licensed by Bandai Entertainment. sola is licensed by Bandai Visual USA. Two different companies, with different market strategies aimed at different audiences.

Yeah, I kind of feel sorry for Bandai Entertainment. I know thanks to being satisfied with past Bandai Entertainment releases (both in quality of anime and pricing), when I read a news blurb like this one for Rocket Girls I think 'That sounds pretty interesting, so I'll keep an eye out for the release and consider whether I'll purchase it then'.

When I see a licensing deal blurb involving Bandai Visual USA, I immediately think 'Well, there's an anime that I won't even bother checking out since even if I do like it it will probably be a sub only release priced out of my anime budget (not that I don't own sub only anime; I just don't own expensive sub only anime). People confusing the two companies could end up hurting Bandai Entertainment's sales.

But as I mentioned above, I've gotten good value from Bandai Entertainment in the past with titles such as Witch Hunter Robin, Planetes, Outlaw Star, Scrapped Princess, and GitS:SAC (plus I'm in the middle of Flag, which I also find interesting) so I'll make sure to keep Rocket Girls on my anime radar for when it gets close to release.

can't wait to get this on DVD...hopefully the dubbing is another winner like Haruhi....

That is, if they actually plan on doing a dub for this show. After hearing Bandai's decision to sell sola as a sub-only release, my general prospects about expecting a guaranteed dub release seems to be dwindling. And while Rocket Girls was a fun show to watch, it wasn't necessarily something that was a 'hit' among the audience in Japan, or to the people who downloaded it prior to the news.

But regardless of that, my fingers are still crossed for this series to have a dub included.

sola was licensed by Bandai Visual, not Bandai Entertainment, who do own the rights to Rocket Girls. So the chances of a dub are pretty high. Just hope it's not a repeat of Stratos 4's dub, but I guess that was a long time ago...

i LOVED Stratos 4 dub...

what was so bad about that particular voices?

i thought the girls' voices fit the characters and did excellent job...

Hmm... Rocket Girls might be a nice comedy show for this summer or fall. I just hope they don't hold off on the solicitation dates until next year.

I still think of how horrid it is to have someone just say "Whatever" to a brand new title like that.

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to declare BS on that one. The anime industry, no matter how you look at it, is still a business: Everything is consumer driven. People have a right to choose what they want to buy a product or not and say whether they want to buy or not. If a company doesn't offer something that willing purchasers have been wanting, such as a popular title like GL or a Geneon license rescue, it's only natural that there will be people that are apathetic to whatever else they license. It's the company's job to give customers what they want, so as to to give them an incentive to buy from them. The companies may have the choosing power, but consumers have the spending power.

Man, those space suits are tight.

The setting is very interesting.
Thanks BV for grabbing it.

Something I posted earlier in a related thread: http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2007/biosuit-0716.html

As they point out in the anime, the concept of a flexible skin-tight spacesuit has been around for decades and the science behind it is quite sound. The suits in Rocket Girls are more form-fitting than the real item as it currently exists, but they are not nearly as exaggerated as many might think.

Do these forums have any rules in place against bad puns? Laughing Because they should.

But yeah, this show is worth checking out. It's not the greatest anime out there, but it's good.

You know when your fandom is ungrateful and killing your industry when:

The first post in a new licence thread is "This show sucks! Give me ____ or _____"

But seriously, good for Bandai! They need a comedy show right now.

Honestly? Bandai needing comedy? last i checked Lucky Star was comedy, this is how we can tell that some fans just don't know what their talking about and should stop bashing their fellows.......

And you've shown me that you don't know what you're talking about. Apparently you've never heard of Kadokawa USA -- No Kadokawa, NO Lucky Star. Bandai releasing the show is more or less a side detail, Unless you're going to tell me Bandai was going to pony up the dough all by themselves Rolling Eyes

The problem isn't with the opinion itself, but that the very first reaction out of the gate for a brand new license is "give me something else". That's a bit much IMO, at least wait for a couple of posts before spreading negativity.

Rocket Girls is about a girl, Yukari, searching for her long lost father on Solomon Island...but got tricked into becoming an astronaut for the space agency which is about to be shut down because of constant failures...the main idea is that since high school girls are small, they can build smaller rockets and have less chance of getting blown up....

Stratos 4 is about group of girl pilots protecting Earth from falling meteors...however they're considered second rate because they're backup defense against first line defense stationed in outer space orbiting the Earth...

i loved both series...have Stratos 4 DVDs...hoping Bandai would license third and fourth OAV series but never got it...

Wow, I am surprised so many people are bashing Rocket Girls here - it was a great series, and set itself above most of the other anime running during that same time period. Definitely a sleeper hit. I would not bash it unless you have seen it and just plain did not like it. But personally, I thought it was very good. I am glad that it is being released in the US, although it did take quite a while for licensing info to be released - I just hope its not going to be delayed for 2 years for dubbing.

It didn't seem like anyone was bashing the show. Definitely not many were. Some just don't seem ecstatic about the news.
