Unless they are trying to imply that 480x264 is high resolution
Given past experience with legal video downloads, this is worryingly likely to be the case.

Regardless, you have to admit, that this service is getting very close to what the majority of people are calling for. And DRM free is a big step. Down the road looks good from these guys, no?

Brilliant. I was hoping BOST's service wouldn't be streaming only.

I just hope there's an option of what quality to download. I seriously want some HD awesomeness from these new series.

Or not... Due to the update, this option is officially out the window.

All that's left now is Crunchyroll... and I don't really feel like paying them for anime.

I think I might just wait and see how the physical media for these series is done.

Just to put things in perspective:

I live in Japan and the only HD anime downloads here was offered by Gonzo at US$15 an episode, DRMed with Windows DRM, and was an old series, so I seriously doubt that the overseas guys would get HD simultaneous before they do here.

Also last I checked, both Druaga and Blassreiter are broadcasting on analog UHF channels - which means no HD source to begin with, so not even the "almighty" fansubbers will get HD raws since, well, it doesn't exist.

I don't mind if it's not HD, but it must be at least fansub quality for me to watch it..

Not bad. $2 per episode is a good price; I don't think. Even if you were a kid of a $5 a week allowance you could easily afford it. Not sure why folk are complaining about that price point. Non HD Fansub quality is garbage at best, especially when the most popular format is Xvid/Divx. Plus they said they were offering 640x360. Thats the resolution of a non-letterbox SD show anyways.

The titles don't interest me at all, but its a step in the right direction.

≈£1, making it great value for UK residents, got to love a weak dollar.

I signed up for an account the other day and I just tried loading it up with some credit. 500 credits cost me £5.11 at Paypal's current exchange rate.

[edit]
Not sure if it's been posted before, but there's a Gonzo subsite at http://www.bosttv.com/gonzo/ with info on these two titles.
They also have the Druaga trailer.

I'm willing to give BOST a try, even though the two trial titles don't particularly interest me from what I've read. But I wholeheartedly approve of the base concept and would love to see more series released this way, once the kinks start getting worked out.

Anime DVD in Japan only cost around 300 yen or around 29 USD, 1 DVD can contain 6 - 8 episodes.

<sarcasm>Woah! You mean for the past 5 years I've been living in Japan I've been ripped off by every single retailer such as Animate, Gamers and Tsutaya in Japan? You must tell me where you buy these DVDs at amazing bargains!</sarcasm>

<non>100% that those are bootlegs you've been buying for that price and episode count</non>

It's common knowledge that the average Japan's anime DVD price is around 6000 yen (60 USD) for 2 episodes.

kipi-san there did post a correction a couple of hours before you. Three Japanese DVDs were posted out to me today as it happens:

Lucky Star 10 LE: 6600 ($63.25) - 2 eps
Denno Coil 7 LE: 7800 ($73.49) - 3 eps
Gigantic Formula 9: 6800 ($64.49) - 3 eps

While two of these are limited editions thus cost more (the regular editions of LS and DC cost 5600 and 3800 respectively), the one that isn't isn't even the cheapest.

Go to sakai suji street if you are in Osaka, there are a big Anime shop there, I will not give you the name so find it on your own but don't blame me if you got the price over 6000 yen for just 2 episode if you are American or look like American. If you are someone who look like Asian especially Japanese, tell the store owner that you know Hero san and I'm sure you will get something good. That is where I buy 2 DVD for 3100 Yen each of Chobits with each DVD have 6 episodes.

By the way, I'm not Kipi san. It is very obvious that I'm not Kipi san knowing Kipi san is a female while my name are the opposite. I'm just using one of Kipi san cosplay pic when she is cosplaying as Renalee Lee.

Obviously you're not the sharpest tool in the box - I already told you that these are bootlegs and what you've said just proves that you're buying bootlegs with how doggy they operate, and you still think you're buying "smart", but in reality they just ripped you off since they make insane profits selling bootlegs and/or grey imports, which gives them at anywhere from 200%-500% profit compared with official DVDs.

These kinds of operation are common in Akihabara (alot by Chinese workers, which gives Chinese people a bad name, very unfortunate) too and you think I don't know that? If I want bootlegs DVDs or grey imports I could easily obtain them in China or Taiwan without these doggy businessman making an insane profit in the process.

Oh, and you're giving other Asian people a bad name too, so please stop pretending you are a "smart shopper".
