Macross Frontier
Plot Summary from the ANN link.
Macross Frontier is my most anticipated title of the upcoming Spring season. The first episode has been available to watch since December 26th/27th of last year when the directors cut version was shown as a preview after a Macross special. Imo it was one of the most impressive first episode of a show I've seen in a long time. Now I know thanks to the Spring thread that quite a few people here just recently watched the first episode so I guess we an discuss it or would you rather wait for it to air? Anyway I manged to listen to the full version of the unmixed or demo version of the OP, Traingler and it's shaping up very nicely. I'm looking forward to hearing the proper version of it as well as Don't Be Late, What 'bout my star? and the Kanno version of Ai Oboeteimasuka by Megumi Nakajima/Ranka Lee. The latest 30 Second CM has some awesome scenes in it at the 12 and 16 second mark, anyway anyone else looking forward to this as much as I am? In addition to hoping this stays just as good as episode 1 if not get better I'm hoping Satelight can set the bar for animation in a tv series with this show and they will if the maintain the quality for episode 1. |

if nothing else this definitely looks to be the prettiest series this spring
but yeah action looks good and the sound track seems great only fault i see is "Nyan Nyan" girl |

Well, I'm looking forward to this series quite a bit, even more than that other big mecha sequel that's coming this spring.
From the first episode, it looks like the production staff threw the first Macross and Macross 7 in a blender, tossed in some bishonen and a moe blob, added a dash of references to earlier installments in the franchise, and set to "liquefy"....Which isn't exactly a bad thing. I actually loved the space exploration fleet setting of 7, at least until it got bogged down in all of the weird stuff. In terms of animation, I HOPE that it'll be consistently as good as the first episode's, but I'm fully prepared for stock footage of the same three variable fighters transforming, firing missiles and exploding over the span of the series' run. :3 The music is shaping up to be great, too. I've heard the demo version (?) of the OP and it sounds like the old Maaya/Yoko partnership. I'm also looking forward to hearing full versions of Sheryl's songs (though I know that it may just get repetitive a quarter of the way through). Buuut, I don't really mind Ranka, mainly because her character is just the latest in the line of Minmays, just with more moe.

I don't get the Ranka Lee hate.. so far anyway.. I'm sure she will piss off a lot of people at some stage in this series, same for Sheryl.
I really don't think I can get sick of the Sheryl songs, I've listened to what's available of Don't Be Late so much already and I just want to hear more than that minute snippet of What 'bout my star? Also in regards to Yoko Kanno's BGM the one played from 19:30 onwards when spoiler[Ozma Lee transforms his Vf-25 into Battloid mode] is so [expletive] epic, classic Kanno. Nyan-Nyan? Nyan nyan nyan nyan, ni hao nyan! Gorgeous, delicious and Deculture! |

This is going to be my first time watching anything from the Macross universe, but Macross Frontier seriously has one of the best first episodes I've ever seen. Fantastic visuals with a story that had me interested all the way till the end, which was also very good because now I can't wait till the series really starts. Hope the series stays this good.
I like all the characters we've been shown so far: Ranka, Sheryl, Alto, etc. And of course the music, too. Can't go wrong with Kanno, especially when she's paired with Maaya Sakamoto for the OP. I also want to hear the full versions of Sheryl's songs. Good stuff. I'll be sure to check out the original series and Plus later on.
I love this little song, especially the "Nyanroll" where that scene is repeated for, like, 10 mintues. |

i finally got around to watching the first episode this morning... that was really, really good. i was planning to watch this series anyway, but now it's a top priority.

Like Ko-chan, I'm completely new to Macross. Also like Ko-cha, I thought it was awesome (after readjusting my expectations down a notch from the-greatest-thing-since-Haruhi after a comment in the Spring '08 thread when someone commented that their jaw would be sore from hitting the floor so many times). It even makes me want to look into the other Macross series. es.

Is there a projected length for series out? Like others here I've seen the first episode and to say the least I was impressed by the visuals however few characters caught my eye. However its only the first episode so theres time for growth and development. If anything the only aspect that got me really interested is spoiler[how the appearance of the main character will affect the series (seeing as he's constantly mocked for looking like a girl)].

I think Alto's being continuously mocked for looking like a girl is a lampshade hanging on the fact he's a bishie, he may get a dramatic haircut later though.
Also I'm thinking there'll be a love triangle like in SDF Macross, it could be Sheryl X Alto X Ranka but I'm not sure, for one thing that would make Ranka and Sheryl similiar for both being idol singers (isn't a given that Ranka goes idol as a minmay clone? It says in all the official stuff she's an aspiring idol) However what about that officer that was escorting sheryl around, she didn't say much, but she could be the third prong of the love triangle (plus Alto and her had a short argument in the episode) and she would make a neat parallel to Misa being an officer and all. spoiler[Also maybe they'll meet the Megaroad-1 (with hikaru, misa and minmay aboard which was last seen voyaging to the center of galaxy before disapearing, the Macross frontier is also voyaging to the center of the galaxy.] Sorry to Macross newbies who don't know have a clue as to what I'm talking about ^^ Last edited by DonQuigleone on Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:38 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Yes, watching that episode also made me want to check out the original Macross and also Macross Plus. MF is a high priority series for me now, especially since the visuals in episode 1 were so frickin insane. My jaw certainly wasn't too happy about that.

So club "This is my first Macross experience, but I saw that first episode and thought it was awesome and now it's a huge priority, and I'm also going to check out Macross Plus and the original Macross as well!" is now open for business!
 Gather members of T.I.M.F.M.E.B.I.S.T.F.E.A.T.I.W.A.A.N.I.A.H.P.A.I.A.G.T.C.O.M.P.A.T.O.M.A.W! (okay, might want to think about shortening the name of that club there.....  )
But yeah, put me in that club as well. It's definitely going to be a series I'm gonna make some kind of priority with this season after that first episode. Those were some of the best visuals, sound effects and BGM I think I've ever SEEN in an anime!  It was serously almost like watching something like Star Wars!
So at the very least, it'll be worth it to keep up with this one for at least that, as well as get into some of the other Macrosses out there. I've got Plus downloading as we speak, and eventually I'll check out the original. But if it's a sequel of Macross 7 like has been said, are we going to have to watch that one as well? |
