So unless the industry practically falls apart, the "anti-fansubbers" have no justifications for their "propaganda?"

You're confusing two different people.

* Shōji Sakai was sentenced for uploading anime.

* Masato Nakatsuji was tried for creating a virus that happened to have images of anime from Sakai and a photo of another student.

The two were both arrested on the same day but for different reasons. Sakai did distribute unauthorized anime episodes, and thousands of them. Sakai was not directly involved with the virus. Sakai has already been convicted and sentenced.

Nakatsuji allegedly took images from those episodes and created a virus. He is being tried under copyright laws, but separately from Sakai. Nakatsuji hasn't been sentenced yet.

I wonder if bootlegging anime was worth forced man-on-man prison love... Crying or Very sad If I was japanese, the idea that I could get jail raped for downloading anime would completely stop me from not just downloading, but I probably wouldn't even watch anime because it could tempt me into downloading it.

Well, basically the same happened in Germany, too, and I see no real problem with it. Even if I don't think that it is that bad, it still is illegal in most countries (Every country?) - and you have to live with the consequences if you give a damn about copyright laws.
I really hope this will change, but until then, copyright laws are laws just like other laws. (Hehe, that was a lot of laws.)

I know how you feel mate. I'm just as sick of all the pro-fansubbers who like to live their anime watching lives with their heads in the sand. You counted 72 aye? Don't you ever sleep? If the previews posted here are any indication of just what the flavour of those 72 are, it's looking more and more like another bucket of otaku chum for their trough as that is the only feed they are buying at market still. Quantity is one thing, quality is quite another.

Yes, and people like you get on my nerves too. -_-;

Generalizing isn't really going to get you anywhere, but I'm guessing you like hearing yourself talk. We don't need another fansub debate because this article had NOTHING to do with fansubs.

^__^ Now...He got unlucky. he gets punished for a violation. Considering how many that he's uploaded, a year would do. Personally, I think he should do some community service. Jail time seems kind of boring.

They should have that law in the US.It'll definately help in the piracy fight but then again critics will complain that it voilates the constitution of the 1st amedment.
