I'd imagine the significance is that fans are getting tired of moe and fan-service, and want series which make them laugh again. And these ranks probably do matter to Japanese publishers.

I don't think moe and fanservice in anime/manga/games is going to be going away quite yet.

InuYasha isn't done yet? I thought it had finished. Wow volume 53, I feel sorry for whomever is collecting the series. . . .

I have through volume forty-eight of the tankoubon, but... I sort of stopped collecting because I got fed up with the series. It was so excellent for the first forty or so volumes then... Rolling Eyes

Still want to buy volume fifty because there's a chapter I really adored. Once the series is over, if I don't hate the ending, I might pick up the missing volumes just so I can have a complete collection.

It's sort of disconcerting to me, because as long as these volumes keep hitting the top ten, Rumiko probably won't even realize how much the quality of her writing has gone down in the past couple years. She's such a talented mangaka. I don't quite get what happened.

There are far longer series, some of which actually maintain quality levels throughout their run.

Hmm... seems you don't like Negima. Never read the series myself, so I don't know what it's like, but #2 is still a pretty good rank.

Yay, Hayate! ^-^ This is the only shonen manga I'm collecting, so nice to see it's still going strong. ^-^

and it would seem we have a 'nobody-in-america-reads-this' series at number 10...

Have you actually read Hayate? There's plenty of moe to go around there too. And the fanservice is less blatant, but it is there.

A series with moe is one rank behind another series with moe, together taking the top 2 slots. Clearly its the end of moe! Rolling Eyes
