The chances of that happening are so remote that you'd probably have a shorter wait holding out for the second coming. :p
No offense, but court cases as of right now internationally have done little to truly eradicate file sharing, and short of a totally unexpected socio-political upheaval I doubt that'll change.

Chances are, a lot of those guys weren't even willing to buy DVDs begin with. They probably want quick entertainment without the hassle of paying or waiting for packages to be shipped. If fansubs are wiped out, they'll just move onto something else they can get/do for free. Not to mention, even if they wanted to support the industry, they can't do it if a fansubbed title isn't even available for a domestic release.
...And don't be a condescending jackass by saying "you better start learning Japanese quick!" It's extremely patronizing, since learning a new language is anything but quick or trouble-free. Seriously.

I agree. They want anime free and even manga.
Not only these are affected, but also the music, movies, software, and video games industries are losing because of piracy.
The Internet is a means of communication, is not for doing illegal things.
Still, people see it as a matter of life or death if they do not get their anime and manga free now

It's called common sense to preview shows for "free" before deciding whether to purchase physical media or not, at least in this day and age.

Because the creator of Winny was stupid and actually proclaimed that he created Winny to break copyrights. (Unlike the creator of Bittorrent who is publicly antipiracy and doesn't give the **AA hit squad any excuse to prosecute him or his program.)

Because ticket prices keep going up, while attendance doesn't actually go up. Heck, recessions usually help movies because people want some escapism.

News has it that this time, the ISP got suspicious the large traffic from these 3 users and started tracking their traffic and gave their identity to the cops.

It's called common sense to sample a meal by eating a whole steak before deciding whether to order one or not, at least, in your fantasy world.
Left unsaid is the fact that after you've had your "sample," you're no longer hungry, thus you decide not to order at all, unless you want to be charitable.
If you want a preview, watch a trailer, go view some episodes at a convention or a club, or download the single episode previews that a lot of companies are starting to offer now.

Last time I checked, a steak wasn't physical media.
It's like watching a tv series at home, then deciding you like it, and want to rewatch it, so you buy it.
Blind buying a series, even after one episode, is near ridiculous. I've done it, but only for series I was guaranteed to like, such as Princess Tutu and Noein.
It's like buying a movie without ever seeing it before.
You want more of my money? Start by releasing more extras on discs. Lucky Star and Haruhi are prime examples of series with excellent extras, both on the DVD and packaged with it. Utawarerumono has the additional OVAs and interviews on the DVD insert.
Generally, as a rule for myself, if I like a series, I'll purchase it. Which is unfortunate for me because I don't have overly high standards for my media. Cost becomes the greatest issue for me, and while shows like Red Garden and Welcome to the NHK were personal favourites, I won't be buying them until the thinpak release.
Additionally, Gonzo has continually impressed me with their same-day subtitled episodes on youtube, crunchy, and BOST. I'll certainly be buying Druaga, and if Blassreiter gets better, that too. It's a format more companies should be following, and episode views would be a good indicator on exactly what series should be brought over.

More accurately, it's like sneaking into a movie theater to watch a movie.

That's probably how I am going to see Speed Racer, Pans Labyrinth, and Alien R.
Though I am still debating whether to see SR in the theater.

It's your money and your decision. If you want to buy something without knowing what you're buying - go ahead. Most people, however, prefer to know what they are paying for BEFORE they pay for it.

I've got one word for you: Dragonaut. The first episode made it look so promising and I expected it to be something really good. The reality was light years away from my expectations (but not in a good way!). The first ep turned out to be the best one in the series. After such a disappointment there's no way I'd trust things like trailers, previews and single ep previews.

Anyway, let's go back to the news for the arrests (which is what this thread should be about). In the long run I don't think this'll make any difference. In the short run... I don't know. It might make some difference... but I am more inclined to believe it won't make a difference at all.

Excactly, which is why if I wanted to preview those movies I can rent them.
I use those examples because MOST people know what they like. So I missed those in the theater, it would be cheaper for me to just buy a copy and actually own it, than to go see it in a movie theater, which I was going to do anyway but never did.

Look to your own side and the ridiculous statements someone always make as to why this things always lose focus.

I'm not on anyone's side and I couldn't care less who made ridiculous statements, or who responded to them and caused a chain reaction. So can you please not group me with other people for no reason?

Can't help but to feel saddened on the fact that they had to be arrested. I think that through the years, and the fact that a lot of people share, it's become somewhat of a practice now and even an addiction; knowing that you can possibly be caught and severely punished would scare me instantly.
It seems that most people who know these consequences will still do it, which makes me think that it is in fact an addiction. Seems like it could be placed together with nicotine and smoking now too.

I'm not getting into this, but just so you know, analogies never solve anything. What's going to solve this unauthorised distribution issue is if companies learn how to monetize it. Your own sense of justice ain't gonna do that for them.
