Hasn't this series already started showing in Japan? Like on TV Asahi? |

| I take it this is a sequel to the 1985 Area 88? I hadn't followed this series in a long time...wow, I remember playing the Super Famicom game of the original back way back when. I wonder what made the studio resurrect a series that had been gone for ten years. |

| I've seen it. It's more of a remake. |

Must confess I'm not very happy with the alterations they've made to the original manga

What's not to like? Sure they're not sticking 100% to the manga - characters are showing up earlier than they are supposed to. But some of the story alterations they've made are improvements. I never liked the story episode 4 was based on where Shin walked all the way back to the base - the revised episode was much more belivable.
They're keeping a serious tone to the episodes, and the voice acting is first rate. |

I don't like the alterations to Shin's design.
I really don't like them.
I also don't care for the aerial combat animations...nowhere as nice as the stuff they did in the movies. Then again those movies had higher production budgets
