When the operation is run by some mid-life crisis DJ wannabe chasing some Crack Whore's skirt, you know it hits the fan. What surprises me even more is that TOKYOPOP hasn't gone under a good year or so ago. Aside from the OEL debacle and their QC issues, such stuff like that would've killed companies months ago. |

| I'm generally anti self-publishing, but Tokyopop is the kind of garbage in the publishing industry that could make someone turn to self-publishing in a second. Tokyopop's contract sounds like something you'd expect to find in China.
Image Comics, on the other hand, sounds very good. I've always wanted to try my hand at comics, but never have because I'm crap at drawing, despite the vivid images in my head (I only do novels as a result). |

| Hmm... And this is why I don't try to enter RSOM. I agree, at least go with a company that gives you moral rights. I mean, if you don't even get CREDITED, why do it? | |||

$$$ I completely agree that you shouldn't give up your moral rights but there are certainly other reasons to pursue a career as a manga artist. It beats many of the other crap jobs out there. There is also something to be said for just getting your work out there for people to enjoy. |

Of course that one word is the issue here. Your work is now owned and controlled by TokyoPop and they can do whatever they want to it like the good trained whore your work has become. That's a good OEL manga. Now just lie back, close your eyes, and think of Japan. |

| Hey, I'm just saying that there is more reason to work as a manga artist that just credit.
I'm not defending Tokyopop. After all with this contract in addition to potentially getting no credit, you receive very little money and as you said your work may be changed beyond recognition. That kinda makes it 0 for 3. |

But $20 a page is a shockingly low amount. |

Enough with your little vendetta already. Almost nobody is defending Tokyopop here so you can probably tone it down a bit.
Stop beating a dead horse already. |
