I will admit, I am not a big fan of Shojo, but once again, Justin has done a fantastic review. I think I do actually remember this series from somewhere before, probably Crunchyroll.

| Only got to see the Black jack OVA series earlier this year. The Dezaki/Sugino Snow Queen was also on local TV last year. Given that QTV has been digging up really old shoujo anime lately (Lalabel and Lulu the Flower Angel), there's an outside chance they'll air the 1973 Aim For The Ace series. |

| How did the first batch of IATV TMS classics fare? I hope the current IATV TMS titles find a new disc manufacturer since they are really hard to find. The official IATV statement made it sound like they are actively trying to get the first batch back in print. Did they do well enough to justify a second round of titles. I think that this Rose of Versailles and Space Cobra along with more Cat's Eye would be ideal for a second wave. |

Um, when was it not that way? Actually it's become less and less Comic Book Guy fare over the years, judging by the convention crowds.
I'm not surprised at the "This is SO Japanese" aspect of this movie. I haven't seen very much anime from that era, but I did see Taro the Dragon Boy (1979) back in the late 80s. Looking back at it now, it evokes the "SO Japanese" feeling. Maybe because so few titles were sold in foreign markets back then, there were little or no "How will this play overseas?" considerations during production. |

Which is a damn shame because being an avid sports fan (and most especially baseball), I would love to see more sports-themed anime here in R1 land. Unfortunately it'll never happen  . |

Princess Nine is a great one, unfortunately it's out of print...
I've been interested in Aim for the Ace! for quite awhile, given my love of sports (particularly tennis) and anime targeted at girls. Not to mention older series and the artstyle of Rose of Versailles. If only I could catch up with my current DVD backlog, not to mention all the discs that keep coming from Netflix I'd be able to start on this, although I'll probably go with the TV series first rather than the movie. |

It's not just the title, the first episode of Gunbuster is a direct parody of the first few episodes of the Ace Wo Nerae TV series.
I prefer the artwork and character development of the TV series best, the changes made in the movie version weren't to my liking.

 I know. I have the brick set and marathon the series every year before baseball season as a way of getting me ready for the upcoming season (although this season, the Indians have been underachieving thus far).
Aim for the Ace! is something I would like to check out, but I'm not that big of a tennis fan, and I wasn't that impressed with the few episodes of The Prince of Tennis that I was able to watch on Toonami. |

I am a tennis fan, and think Prince of Tennis is pretty bad. It is only enjoyable when they're not playing their over-the-top, ridiculous, physics-ignoring, tennis rule-breaking tennis. I have a feeling Aim for the Ace! is going to have a feel much more similar to Princess Nine than Prince of Tennis. |
