| I happen to like the show. Sure it's vulgar, but come on, hasn't anyone seen Super Milk Chan? That show goes in the same category as this one. So it uses humor you'd expect on South Park, and? I suppose you'd have to tolerate a lot of gross comments, but hey if you're going to be that prude about it, why bother watching television altogether? There's always going to be bathroom comments and bad words.
Some irony for you people who complain about those things: those are the things Kyle's mom on South Park whines so much about. "Nothing but foul language and toilet humor!" And I loled at the weeaboo bitterness comment ![]() Last edited by belvadeer on Wed Oct 07, 2009 2:27 pm; edited 1 time in total |

| I have the Season 1 boxset and I love it. I came to terms with the dub only issue a while back. And some others on here have mentioned that the show has a lot of cultural references that a majority of the American viewing public wouldn't get. It would be like showing family guy in some country it's not being shown in (Didn't want to pick Japan cause I think they may show it there, not sure though) and expecting them to get the jokes about Kevin Federline or Texans. Some things from the original just wouldn't be funny here. In any case, I like it for what it is, an original show using pre-existing animation. lol. | |||

That's what I don't get. I keep hearing people compare this dub to "MXC" and "What's Up Tiger Lily". It's nothing like that, it's still the same show that it was originally animated to be, just with a different order of episodes, heavy changes in the dialogue, and some digital edits to signs here and there. The story and characters are still the same, and that's what's important. |

| I think this show is hilarious, and I snapped up the DVD as soon as I could, and still watch it on TV. It's the only anime I've been excited about for a long time now.
Not really sure if I understand why "might be offensive to some" is considered a con for this series though. We could all list a ton of TV shows that can offend people but yet were considered amazing series. Off the top of my head... The Sopranos (violence, language), Sex and the City (sex), Big Love (subject), The L Word (subject, sex), South Park (everything). Also, I don't understand why people care about not having subs on the set. This show is old, and only the most hardcore of fans would be able to get and laugh at obscure Japanese humor from so many years ago. I like the direction they took with the show. If you became a fan of the show from watching it on TV, I don't think you're likely to cry about it not being pure for the DVD release. AS has done a great job marketing Shin-Chan and its certainly finding its audience, which means Funimation will make us more great episodes and we can all enjoy a good anime for once... |

| Mention of Ghost Stories but not of the Duel Masters dub!? That dub script was GOLD and its a damn shame its bad time slot caused it to be overlooked and cancelled.
Anyhow, I usually would be horrified at the thought of a dvd with no original JP audio option, but not in this case. I tried watching the original Crayon Shinchan and it just isn't as funny. I love the dub for what it is. *shrug* Yeah I love my occasional potty humor. Even Ping Pong Club made me laugh. Heh. |

Hmm. I don't know why I put that, I just meant the producers of the Original Japanese version. Toei is a default in my mind. xD |

Actually IIRC, Duel Masters was ended by Wizards of the Coast because the merchandise weren't selling. BTW, the dub script for the first couple seasons was headed by the guy who did the legendary Troops. Oh, here's a nugget for ya! |

| I remember the first time I watched this show on AS not knowing what to expect and my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe how raunchy this show was and I've always wondered how true it was to the original content.
Yes the reviewer gave an "F" for animation and deservedly so the show looks terrible, but that not the point. I personally love this show I've never heard dialogue so incredibly politically incorrect done so nonchalantly. It's definitely not for every body, but if you think that a dog saying “c*ck blocked again” in a British accent is funny then give Shin Chan a shot. |

There's a rant in the commentary about how people automatically say Shin Chan fails because the art doesn't look like CLAMP. He says that it's actually one of the best animated shows he's ever worked on, something about how when characters move there are more parts of them animated than in any other show. I don't know, whenever I read threads of people complaining that the animation sucks in one episode as compared to another, I can never tell the difference. (TTGL) |

| FIrst off, I like the Funi version, far better than the (in my personal opinion) dreadful attempts at humor in Super Milk Chan or Ghost Stories. That said, I am disappointed the original isn't there. Whether the original is any good or not is not the point. I just would like to see it how it played in Japan originally. I personally don't see keeping it bilingual as being a considerable extra expense, and it would make some Otaku very happy (me included!). For all the problems I had with ADV's Ghost Stories dub (I just didn't think it was all that funny - too many poor taste jokes repeated excessively), at least I had the original, which to my surprise I personally found engaging and a lot more enjoyable. Because of that, I picked it up in spite of the dub. Oh well, I did enjoy Shin-chan enough on AS that I'll probably still pick it up. | |||

| I was reluctant to like Shin-chan when I first saw it on Cartoon Network, but after a bit it really grew on me. If nothing else, you really do have to appreciate the cleverness of the dub scripts. Sometimes they go for the cheap, obvious, usually overly crass jokes, but there are plenty of times when the dialogue is really very sharp.
I find that the show is usually funniest when it doesn't try to hard to be overly crude and just makes jokes that seem similar to what was originally in the series like Shin's "ass dance" and overall fascination w/asses and jokes about his mom's bra size (which I believe is something he does in the original version as well). The funniest ep. I've seen of the Shin-chan dub has to be where Shin and his mom switched bodies. That ep. really seemed like they used more of the original humor in the show because it was already there and they didn't have to write in a ton of pop culture references in order to get a cheap laugh. As for the comparrissons w/South Park, at least Shin-chan is funny and not all up-its-own-ass-preachy like South Park is these days. |

| I really love Shin Chan, but I had no idea the dub went that far. Guess it paid off in the end. Still wish they could of included subs, even if we would of needed liners. | |||

My exact words, it is a dissapointment that Funimation didn't include the original track. As soon as I learned it was only dub, decided not to buy it... A shame because I want to support it. Guess buying the manga from CMX will do. |
