Hmm fifth place? That's not bad.
How can it get fifth place in America if its only in 10 theaters? I hate anime bias people e_e ok strongly annoyed with, it better be available by me. |

| Umm... somehow, I doubt that Dreamworks has the remotest intention of even attempting to get GITS: Innocence into the North American Top 10; it's way too niche a "genre" (yes, technically "medium", I know) for them to give the film a wide release. They'd spend a lot more money making the prints and advertising it than they would ever make back at the box office. They're in it for the money to be made off the sales of the DVD... |

Although there was never really any doubt, I cvan confirm what you said as fact. I've spoken to Dreamworks about the release, and while they haven't finalyzed release plans yet, its nothing even remotely close to top 10 box office. It's more likely something along the lines of top 10 markets.

| By the way, I spoke to a guy from Japan who said that Innocence wasn't receiving good reviews in Japan (except the music part). I'm gonna hold my judjement until I see the movie myself. |

Tempest: Tell them a lot of fans were po'ed by how they screwed up Millennium Actress, which at least deserved to be nominated for Best Animated Film, even if it wasn't going to beat Nemo. Regardless of how Disney screwed over Ghibli films in the past, at least they supported Spirited Away during the Oscar season.
Proman: Innocence admittedly looks disappointing, compared to the original, but you'd think the success of GITS as a tv show in Japan would prompt better rankings in the box office. |

Well then, aintitcool news has a review of it without spoilers. From what I can see, it's deeply philosophical with less action than the original. I'm all for this, but I can also understand how this can be problematic for people. It's hard to follow and it doesn't satiate much of the primal desires of action, sex etc. I'm sure it's not without though.
I might end up enjoying appleseed more x_x but i'll watch em both when they come to theaters. Appleseed would be great to add to many more theaters ^^ the trailer is more than enough to advertise it. |
