as far as i can see i can't any flames leaping out from these confessions, i think its ok. after all these really looks like fun!!!
as for some of my confessions
- my miyazaki favorite was the castle of calgiostro, and i cried at the end of grave of the fireflies
- i cried while watching love hina, especially the christmas special part, although the spring special quickly made me want to break something
- i liked pokemon a lot, and saw digimon as a cheap imitation, and i'll admit that i didn't know which one came first
- i consider series like let's go, beyblade, crush gear and yu gi oh as a kind of marketing ploy to sell toys to children.
- unlike most boys/men, i hate mechas (except perhaps evangelion), had never watched bleach and i only watch naruto and death note so that i could participate in discussions with my friends about anime, since all of them only knows the latter three series.
- i had watched and liked to some degree sailor moon, fushigi yuugi, akazukin cha cha, chobits, sola, ef and clannad/kanon/air (i think there's something really wrong with my tastes )
- i had also never understood FLCL, took me 3 tries to finish that thing
- i also like avatar although i only watch it because of the action and not because of the love teams. |

I watched Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa but for some reason I can't mentally seperate the two. Wierd. And if Rumiko Takahashi is a god, then was Inuyasha a test of our faith?
And yes, confessions are fun...
-I also like Avatar, more than most anime. It's very well written (please don't cancel it!)
-I liked G Gundam. And Gundam Wing. And I have a friend who agrees.
-I like romance but am scared of buying shojo.
-There's nothing wrong with fanservice.
-I thought the first (joke) episode of Haruhi was the real deal. |

That had me laughing.
Okay, my confessions:
~ I DO NOT LIKE Melancholy Life of Suzumiya Haruhi. The premise of the show had so much potential to be something great but failed miserably. And I especially hate Haruhi, she is one of the most irritating characters ever conceived.
~ I like Sailor Chibimoon. She is quite possibly one of my top five favorite Sailormoon characters. And on the other end, I absolutely despise Minako (Venus).
~ I think no anime can ever dream of reaching the depth and complexity of Shoujo Kakumei Utena.
~I found Arjuna too pretentious in its enviromental preachiness... and I'm a freaking vegan. The plot was very convoluted at times where I think even the writers didn't even know what they were trying to say anymore.
~I am obsessed with Code Geass... completely. Despite how flamboyantly ridiculous it gets at times.
~Vampire Knight is so mediocre that it pains me. Same goes for Soul Eater.
~I think Oniisama E (Brother Dear Brother) was even better than Rose of Versailles.
~Eyeshield 21 is my god, and I absolutely hate football.
~I think the dub and English script for Lupin the 3rd is better than the original. And I typically hate dubs.
~I think Yoshitoshi Abe's works are greatly overrated.
~I actually laughed a lot at Ping Pong Club.
~And yet, Slayers (all series),.. barely makes me laugh. In fact I find it predictable and often the plot is muddled or just stupid.
~I prefer the Nodame Cantabile dorama over the original anime or manga. I can't even watch the anime, really.

While I'm not going to argue about the relative quality of Bebop episodes (everyone has their favorite) Ed is not a pointless character. She's vital to the show's dynamic.
Why? Because she does three things that are very important:
1-She provides a contrast to the three other main characters' jaded, world-weary natures. And by doing so, she highlights them. You understand Spike, Jet and Faye better when you realizes how unlike Ed they are. She's full of wonder and life and happiness, and everyone else is various degrees of defeated by life. Plus, in "My Funny Valentine," we learn how LIKE Ed Faye used to be, which just makes the scene where she sees her past self more poigant, because she knows she can't be like that anymore. She's lived too much. She's trapped in adulthood, while Ed embodies all the best traits of childhood ramped up to eleven.
Ed is a walking reminder of the innocent past the other three can't go back to.
2-Ed forces Spike to be grounded. Spike complains about each new character as they are introduced, but he clearly is fond of each of them and cares about them. But Ed's arrival is important because it forces a level of stability on him. If the Bebop crew are a family unit, Ed is the "kid," and a kid is what usually forces stability on a family. Having Ed around really forces Spike to have someone to look after, because Ed is the only member who can't defend herself in a fight. It forces Spike to put his self-destructiveness on hold because he has someone to look out for. He cares about Jet and Faye, too, but Ed is the only one he feels responsible toward, because the "eh, I'll just leave, they can take care of themselves" excuse doesn't work for her. What's the first thing Spike does after Ed leaves? He goes and gets himself killed. [Use spoiler tags, that's what they're there for. -selenta]
3-Because a show that violent needs a comedy relief character badly.
I can see how some would find her annoying, but she's far from unnecessary.
ANYWAY! My confessions.
-I watched every episode of Inu-Yasha. I still have no idea why.
-I thought Excel Saga stopped being funny after about the third episode (not counting ep 26, which is amazing.)
-I like it when they give wacky accents to foreign people in dubs (the dub of G-Gundam was a huge missed opportunity!)
-I still don't think Azumanga Daioh was all that clever.
-I'm not at all impressed by Alucard.
-I think Ranma and Akane both deserve to end up alone. They're both horrible people.

I'm actually not worried about them cancelling it. I'm worried about them dragging it out to long.
I still need to watch the rest of season two.... I'm liking it better than season one. |

I'll have to think of my own fandom secrets. The only two I can think of at all at the moment are:
1. For as much as I "tch" at fanservice and refuse to watch hentai, I actually find screwball fanservice (short of pornography, that is) ...really, really funny. I'm a straight girl, too. I have a rather low and dirty sense of humor for as much of a critic as I am. Only reason I rant against fanservice is because it usually takes away from a story, but most times, I know I love it.
2. I still really love season three of Digimon. God help me, I do. The rest of the seasons are stupid, but for whatever reason I revisited the show three years after five years after first watching it once my sister got attached and it's still fun. At some points, it's even well-written. But this has never elicited anything but giggles from other people.
To respond to Answerman's dirty little secrets:
1. I only found one episode horribly pointless and boring, and at least got some enjoyment out of all the others. I also liked the lackadaisical pace. Ed is cute, and not all of our characters need be angst-ridden, right? But that's really a matter of opinion...
2. It only picks up pace severely in the second season, but you couldn't have the second season without the first. The first season has some of my favorite episodes in it as well as Colonel Hughes, the awesome-sauce, so I can't disparage it much for being more aimless. It's still far from being aimless by shonen hit standards.
3. Congratulations, you're a normal guy. Normal anime-fan guy, anyway.
4. Not a bad choice for favorites. Not at all. Great show.
5. That makes one of you. Honestly, I didn't think the original ending was so bad, (didn't stick around for the movie) but I hated the show, so I can't judge.
6. Guilty pleasures rock. Mine's Chobits and most any reverse harem show. Reverse is the key word, though.
7. REALLY?! That's weird, I was just telling my boyfriend that the other day after he compared Big O to Blade Runner and I said, "I have a better example," so I'm glad someone agrees. It was hard to explain because Chobits isn't a deep show by any means, but it really had its moments.
8. Amen.
9. Amen to that, too, although I do have a soft spot for cuddly critters, the magical scrotums part didn't do it for me. -.-' |

I have several "secrets" that aren't really, but here they are anyway:
*I hate Haruhi Suzumiya on the sole basis that's it's popular.
*The Last Unicorn is the best movie ever; the reason? It has unicorns in it.
*No matter how beautiful Princess Tutu can be, the first episodes are meant to be mocked.
*Ghost in the Shell should go under a rock and die.
*The only Gundam series I liked was SEED.
*I hate old anime with a passion, simply because I can't stand to look at it.
*I have watched Fafner countless times, yet I still don't get it.
*I am embarrassed to admit I actually like a series called "Princess Tutu," "Tweeny Witches," and "Sugar Sugar Rune," and avoid talking about it when the titles pop up, simply because of their respective titles.
*Despite claiming to be a Twelve Kingdoms fanatic, I completely skipped three episodes in the beginning because of Yoko's whining, Yuka's overall bitchiness, and Asano being a deformed idiot.
*The only game I ever beaten is Pokemon (thus it's very dear to my heart).
I agree about Miyazaki: he's overrated. I like his movies, don't get me wrong. It's just I never felt the urge to re-watch them (I believe Howl's Moving Castle is the only exception).

meh, I'm sick and bored.
I'm a big fan of Rave. It was the first manga I collected
I try to figure out the dances to anime
Gundam Seed is the only Gundam series I like.
I collect Sanrio. My favourite character is Pinkilili (Oh, a guy in the army told me that he thought my Pinkilili poster was cute)
I think Lucky Star is the worst anime ever
I rather watch an old school anime than a new one since I became an anime fan in 1999
I actually enjoyed The Adolescence of Utena, a crack version of the series.
I don't understand why Naruto is still aired
EDIT: I'm upset magical girl anime is rarely lisenced in North America
I'm addicted to Nana |

Princess Mononoke is my favorite Miyazaki movie for sure.
Confessions?
-I hate moe, harem, yuri (in anime) and yaoi (always).
-I hate Funimation, Dreamworks, Gainax, and Kyoani.
-I think half of Gonzo's shows are garbage.
-I was able to sit through Tsukihime without falling asleep and I liked it.
-Most of the time I enjoy comedy in American cartoons more than the comedy in anime.
-Haruhi Suzumiya is a bitch, and the anime is terrible.

Another great column. Also if Metal Gear Solid 2 became an anime, it'll be split into 2 movies and the ending will be "End of Metal Gear Solid" and will leave movie goers in a headache that not even aspirin can cure! I got a few secrets on my own.
* Still think that all of Evangelion is brilliant. Endings are superb.
* I still do not see the strong appeal of Haruhi and Lucky Star other than reference and the fanbase.
* If an anime has great graphics, I usually buy them regardless if the show sucks.
* I watch ToLoveRu just for the fanservice.
* I dislike watching anime when foreign characters have Japanese voices, especially if they are suppose to be German. I have a hard time watching Monster.
* I record and watch all anime on TV (not anime devoted stations) regardless if I dislike the show.
* Dubbing that does not follow the translation script are better.
When I come across on "that guy" I usually ignore them. If they bother me, usually ends up being "that guy" no longer shows up. I take no s-.
I still like My Neighbor Totoro is better of the Miyasaki's films. |
