Heh. Someone needs to make a meme out of the pic of the old TV and Kojikan.

Seriously, I think this is the case of a random google search for cartoons or anime. Or the person who made this is an anime fan for sure. Or wanted kids watching something that looks like a kids show.

Amazingly great colour and sharpness on a TV that's got to be 25 to 30 years old.

I think that may have been the actual intent. The add promotes that the product gives TVs better sound, and it's difficult to convey improved sound quality via print media. The parental controls comment is the last line of the ad.
So making a rather old tv look new by pasting a digital picture over the front to make people think that "better sound" equates to sharp and clear pictures and colour, is false advertising, because in todays electronic entertainment media they are completely separate signal paths with 4, or 5 separate channels.

Errm... haven't anyone noticed that ANNs article links to the Kodomo no Jikan hentai (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6267) when the paper article shows the other one, http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7688?

xD

Like I said in the original thread, taking film or photos of CRT screens doesn't generally work very well. TV screens shown on old TV programs would often have the image superimposed for this reason (DS9 had real monitors as part of the set but they were specially designed to run at a frequency that coincided with the film rate). Chances are only about half of whatever was on the screen was avtually visible in the photo, if the TV was even on at all, so they would have had to modify the image. Whoever was responsible for designing the ad apparently has a sense of humour.

I'm sure this isn't the only reason, but I'd think partially the reason they chose an anime is that it's unlikely to be seen by any of the copyright holders, so they won't get sued. If Family Guy was in there instead, there might be a case of copyright infringement?
