I've only ever been confronted once about my anime purchase, and of all things, it has to be the time I bought "Sensitive Pornograph".
Which is why I bought my copy of SP online.

Oh yeah, and don't even get me started about the fools who call everything asian "Chinese."
One of the unintentionally funniest comments I overheard in 4 years of working in the music/DVD department of a large Barnes&Nobles: A young man and his girlfriend were perusing the new releases, and he picked up the (then-new) Ringu 2 U.S. release and knowingly informed his companion, "Oh, this is the Chinese remake of The Ring." His statement was so wrong on so many levels it made my head hurt; since he was not talking to me, though, I felt interrupting just to correct him in front of his girlfriend (though satisfying) would be rude, so I held my tongue.

"Must... resist... the urge. Mustn't...sabatage...relationship...." Laughing

I admire your ability to hold back. I'm not sure I could have... though I probably could only have mustered roaring laughter at most, anyway. It's amazing though how people can be... soooo wrong. It can boggle the mind.

Now that I think about it, Best Buy clerks are really nice! Actually... When I wanted to get the limited edition of Haruhi, volume one, I was a few dollars short... Then, the clerk actually paid for it! Embarassed
Shocked Damn, that is beyond nice!

I wonder if a future Nina comic will have her checking out with an awesome clerk. Wouldn't that just be sweet payoff for having to suffer the idiots in this strip?

i don't usually get the anti-anime comments in stores. i mostly find them on the net on non-anime message boards. i.e. the usual "anime is pornographic/pedophilic/for-kids-so-why-are-you-into-it" nonsense.

a lot of the same message boards also have other anime fans, so sometimes it can turn ugly there, lol.

OMG I've so been there.
It's so annoying...
honestly, what's up with people these days?
they either call me childish for watching anime or they call me perverted...
...and I don't even watch hentai xD
[I do have my thing for yaoi but no one I know really knows what it is... xD]

and they only say that I'm perverted because they know I watch some +18 animes *that don't even have sex in it*

they're just bloody, that's all xP

well, whatever I'm like nina now xD everytime anyone tries to talk to me about anime I'm like 'lalala not listening' xD

Best thing is when it's your own parents. Like, they never outright criticize me for it, but they've made it clear that they think 95% of what I watch/listen to is crap. Crying or Very sad

To be as cruel as possible to the elderly who ask the first question:

"Look who's calling the kettle black, ancient one. At least anime exists in my time. All you did as a kid was play tiddlywinks."

I know what you mean, my father was the same when I started liking things like RPGs. It always made me want to slug him, father or not.

With my dad's side, this happens, but with my mom's side...

My mom likes Full Metal Alchemist and Gravitation! My uncle also likes anime; he gave me my first volumes of manga! My grandparents on my mom's side don't really know much about anime, but they don't say anything. Let's hope they don't hear about some crazy kid suspended for his Death Note...

I love this comic. I've come across ALL of these.

My classmates (I went to high school online) used to write messages on the message board about how they, 'hate cartoons that were supposed to be what, like, adults would watch. We aren't little kids! We don't watch those weird cartoons! We are too old for cartoons'. They used to bash me specifically for watching anime, too. It was a mixture of fun and aggravation to see how they showcased how ignorant they were.

My own sister freaked out when I was young and I was going to let my niece borrow my Sailor Moon VHS. She was panicking and whispering to my dad that she heard Sailor Moon and those Japanese cartoons were porno that dirty men watched.

I came across someone on a Sailor Moon board when I was younger that said, 'U guyz gotta quit callin sailormoon chinese. Its not a chinese cartoon or whatevr, it has nothing to do with asians'.

The only thing I could say I hate more than that has to be those who, when I say I'm an anime fan, ask what I watch, and then say, "You watch THAT? You need to watch some QUALITY anime, not that crap." Wow. I can like whatever I want to like, thanks. Quit trying to hard to sound superior because of your all-mighty taste that apparently puts mine to shame. -_-;

On the bright side, my mom doesn't care that I like anime, and doesn't know much about it. My dad, however, likes the anime I show him and while he doesn't understand some of the things that are just normal in anime, he's a fan of it.

I love the fourth panel of the comic. Anime hyper That guys expression just cracks me up paired with the dialogue.

The first 2 people and probably the redneck I could ignore and walk about my own buisness, but I hate people who think all Anime is Hentai. I probably would've said something to the lady, explain to her about her lack of understanding about anime.

Poor Nina at the last panel *Sad face*

My parents are pretty okay with my anime obsession, although I often get "why don't you do something else for a change?" They also think I don't make friends well since everyone in my class watches stupid soap operas and shows like Gossip Girl and I watch anime...

My mom watches Clannad though! Very Happy
