Wolf and Spice is a type of show that could benefit from a dub, due to the lack of Japanese specific words. I guess the only thing that'd be lost is Horo's "nushi", which while cute, isn't terribly important. As for most of the others, not having a dub isn't too much of a loss, especially for Ninomiya-kun.
Lawrence would definitely need to be Johnny Yong Bosh, as it's the same damn tone and voice that Fukuyama does for Lelouch. No one voice actor is acceptable here, not a single one. |

Agreed. I reviewed it on my radio show in January (giving it an A-), but said that it would probably have no chance of being licensed. Here's one of the few times where I'm glad I was wrong . |

| These are all niche titles that probably won't sell very well. Releasing things like this are why the US companies are in the mess they're in. Sub-only releases are probably the only way of them having any chance to make money. |

They apparently said they would try to get dubs for them, but they can't confirm whether that will be the case yet. |

| im happy about Junjou and Spice and Wolf (been waiting to hear about Spice and wolf...) but its odd, at least to me, that junjou is already being licensed when it just came out not too long ago. and because the 2nd season/part hasn't even aired yet. i would have thought it would have taken a little bit longer, or that at least Vampire Knight would have been licensed before it, because of its popularity but anyways, just glad it'll get licensed...dunno about all the others though :/.......i havnt really looked into them any... |

Yet having a dub is the the only you will ever have a break away hit. If you wanna do more than just cover your costs and make pennies, the smart thing to do is make a dub.
Are all of these going to get one? Probably not. But I am pretty tired of everyone painting six anime with such a broad brush, of going to sell not going to sell. It's anime bigotry at its finest. For all you know one of these will take off, and make gobs of money. But it's not going to happen with a sub-only release. So just remember kids. When you are jumping with egocentric glee about how you love that your show is sub only. Your wishing failure upon your favorite shows. And at the most mediocracy. |

But the whole point is that none of these really were breakaway hits. And no, none of this OMG HUEG SHOWS really happens after the fact, due to fansubs. People will buy Wolf and Spice, and Rental Magica was pretty big too, I remember, but I doubt it can get on TV. That's where the big show stuff happens, and if it's not projected to ever be on TV, the reason for it having a dub diminishes quite quickly.
The end result the other way is every show gets dubbed, and for ones like Ninomiya-kun, no one buys them because they were crap, and thus the roughly $10,000 per episode ($130,000 at the end) that it cost to dub is all lost and might never be made back. If you make a sub only version, your ability to re-coup the loss is easier. What should really happen is that crappy shows should just not be licensed in this current flooded anime market. Shows like Emma, Aria, and Marimite were licensed and release not so Joe Normalguy, the non-hardcore anime fan would buy them, they were releases so those people who adored the fansubs could now own it. It was a fan-favor, and we like them for that. |

Hopefully whichever distributor gets the super niche titles will release them sub only in season sets and be done with it. The only one that is near mainstream enough to deserve a dub is Rental Magica.
Not seeing Mushi-uta on the list sucks.

Remember, this is only an announcement that Kadokawa USA holds the licenses; it says nothing about who's going to actually distribute them, or how. Until that's announced, I suggest treating this more as a strongly hopeful sign than a definite thing.
Given that, I am not at all surprised, and very pleased, that Spice and Wolf is going to get released. I don't believe it's as much of a niche title as people are making it out to be, and it was quite popular in fansubs for only a 13-ep run. (Well, 12 eps plus the one unaired episode.) I'll be very surprised if it doesn't get dubbed, and I dearly hope Johnny Yong Bosch is not the one to voice Lawrence; I don't think his voice fits the role well at all.
Now, I could see Kari Wahlgren as Horo. She voiced Pacifica in Scrapped Princess, and that's the kind of voice I could imagine Horo having (albeit played more slyly) in English. |

| A title about trading in the Middle Ages hardly strikes me as mainstream. |
