| But what's it say? (The "English" button doesn't seem to do anything for me, and I can't remember the spelling that the infamous internet translation site goes by). | |||

In short, Kon doesn't buy Bones' statement. He believes the possibility of someone unrelated to Bones who has created such a detailed list from scratch just to defame Bones is very low. |

| I for one would like to see another Fullmetal Alchemist anime, this time however, they should do it right and follow the story line directly. The first anime followed the manga to an extend, then it went 360 and totally changed....which kinda messed up everything...( I really didn't like either the ending of the anime or the movie that followed it, and I'm an FMA fan...).
It's been done before, look at Hellsing. Recently, an OAV was released that follows the story much more directly than the previous anime that was released at the end of the 90's (was it the end of the 90's..anyway.) Even more recently, the anime Kanon got another version, called the 2006 version. An original version was released in 2002, but fans complained that it didn't stick quite to the story of the game it was based on. I don't know if that's why they re-did it, but they did do it again. So, I for one am totally for another anime version of FMA. I loved the original Japanese cast and I would love to see them return, they did a great performance. |

| I'm not fond of the view that the FMA anime going a different direction from the manga was a bad thing or a messed up thing. I suppose if people are expecting it to be exactly like the manga then it would be upsetting, but if you take it as it's own story then it isn't bad at all. Going their own direction was a much better idea than doing what they do with most shonen series, never ending filler when there isn't enough manga material out yet. Besides, if I want the manga story I'll read the manga story. Why make the anime the same? |

I suppose that is one way of seeing it, but I just never could understand why they decide to create an anime before the actual manga has enough chapters out. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I don't see the point of taking time and money to create an anime if it's not at least, very similar to the original manga it was based on. Of course, I'm aware that even if it's sticks to the original story, some parts have to be cut and some passages must be favored over others, but I just find it quite silly that FMA followed the original story almost to a tee, then, about the time when Greed shows up, OOPS, not enough material, so now we have to invent characters that don't exist and make a movie that nobody really liked. I would have liked to have seen fillers.... In my opinion, they are two ways to use fillers, wisely, and poorly. By adapting the story, they could have produced decent fillers that would have eventually gotten the anime story back on track with the manga. They did for Bleach, they also did it for Naruto. Heck, they did original FMA novels, they could have based some anime episodes on that. I just love seeing my favorite manga moments animated, and there are some in FMA that would have looked soooo cool, if that had been included in the anime. |

| There are still plenty of people who enjoyed the movie. Also, the anime didn't pull their storyline variations out of the blue- if you rewatch the series, you can see even in the beginning that they were carefully setting up their own version of the homonculi, as well as other story changes. And if Bones did resort to filler, the sense of urgency and pacing in the anime would have taken a huge downturn. Also- did you really want FMA fillers? Did you see the cut scenes for the first and third PS2 games, with Ed and Al fawning over ridiculously over-the-top Mary Sues? Because that's probably what you would get.
Anyway. According to this the rumor for more manga-based FMA is still on. My sentiments are thusly: Huh. Well, I wish they don't go for a full 52-episode show again, especially so soon after the last show. Because, well, what are they going to start out with? Lior? Tucker? The death of You-Know-Who? It's sorta been done already, and probably performed as well as they're ever going to get. And if they choose to start mid-story, with the introduction of Lin and whatnot, I guess that could work, but it would be odd to start out a full-lengthed series mid-story. If Bones does choose to follow the manga this time around, I'd rather it be a series of OVAs, or movies, or something (sort of like how the new Eva remakes are more tolerable in movie format than as a new 26 episode series)- let's not repeat the format so soon please. I'm guess I'm both optimistic and cautious about an upcoming FMA, it could go either way. I'm hesitant, if only because the FMA anime we have right now is one of my favorite examples (anime or likewise) of how to craft a true dramatization out of its source material. And to be honest I'm not looking forward to re-debating fans of the manga over the changes it made all over again. And- if the rumors are true, even some key staff members are new this time around- would this new version even keep stuff like the old music? I've grown so accustomed to songs like Bratja, it would be odd, to say the least, to get used to new things so soon after the last show. |
