That's another aspect about this that I'm a little concerned about. But really, the main issue on my mind concerning these re-releases is continuity with the previous Geneon releases of the unfinished shows. Particularly, Higurashi and Hellsing Ultimate.

Aside from logo art changes and a new UPC code, our understanding is that the new DVD's and re-releases for the unfinished shows like When They Cry, Hellsing Ultimate, Karin, and Kyo Kara Maoh! Season 2 will be identical to the original Geneon releases. There will be no need to repurchase volumes you already own. This way fans that already have, for example, Karin 1,2, & 3 can pick right up where they left off by buying Vol #4. This will also allow folks to finish up their incomplete art boxes. In fact, some of the re-releases will not need to be repressed and will probably come from left over stock. Geneon ended up with a mountain of unsold and retailer returned stock on these series last fall. We are considering old and new versions interchangeable (for example, Black Lagoon DVD #1) for all intents and purposes. As the odd man out, it looks like they are going to re-release Gelade one volume at a time, probably for lack of old stock to recycle.

Several of the series that had already been completed like Shana, Fate/Stay, and Rozen maiden S1 will get boxed set releases and will not be re-released as single DVD's. I'm curious if the boxes will be typical old Geneon fare with the original disks packaged in a full art box, or if they will be reworked into Funimation’s regular thin-pak or Viridian style releases. We haven't seen any box art for the sets yet, but we'll post it to the site as soon as they send it over.

The most remarkable thing about the change over for us will be in the pricing structure. Funimation is able to offer us better pricing that we ever previously had direct with Geneon (aside from liquidations, Geneon’s wholesale structure never was competitive), so we are able to price these re-issues to you guys around 8% better than we previously would have - somewhere between 27 & 29% off MSRP everyday regular price. That compares to the previous pricing structure of around 20% off MSRP back when we were sourcing these DVD’s from Geneon. So not only will we be getting these titles back into circulation, we will now be able to price them comparatively to other brands such as Bandai Ent, ADV, and regular Funi titles.

September 2: Karin volumes 1-4,

Hopefully the orginal cast is still dubbing this excellent series and hopefully this isn't a boxset.

I already bought three volumes, so I will continue to purchase this series after volume four.

I thought after Geneon closed, Karin would be one of those series that would remain to be unfinished forever. I am glad that isn't true.

That answers the question about whether the Rozen Maiden boxset will have Traumend - it won't, and that's what I figured Razz .

I would guess that the boxsets would most likely be the typical Geneon bricks that we use to see from them when they were still active in the R1 market. I really don't see FUNi converting them to thinpaks unless Geneon gave them permission to.

I was planning on hunting down the Shana DVDs, but I guess it isn't necessary anymore ;P

Thanks Funi.

You just know most of these are back-stock dvds with the FUNimation logo briefly stamped on them. Wink

Black Lagoon's (Season 1) re-release will indeed be the original 3 DVD volumes rather than a boxed set.

Funimation don't waste time, do they? I'll be making a trip to RightStuf to pre-order Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage.

.....Story of Saiunkoku was one of the titles to be re-released, correct? That was the only Geneon title I got stuck with. Oh well, I'm quite patient.

Aside from the Geneon titles being picked up, that was what I wanted to hear. Now that the prices are going to be roughly the same as other companies, I'm less inclined to pass up buying these in favor of a cheaper series that I also enjoyed. Seriously now, if you enjoy 2 series equally, who isn't going to buy the cheaper one?

WOOHOO I can finish Black Lagoon, even though I signed up on Starz just to see the rest. I will also have to finish Karin and get some more Hellsing, as well. It's to bad I collected the Shana DVD's as they were released, I just enjoyed the series that much. Sorry, Funimation Smile But good job on all the rescues, here's hoping that you get season 2 of Shana, I would really like to see it.
