Once again we learn:

Anime + Islam = Sad

At least this doesn't affect the outside world this time.

My guess is that it was the Nami fight in the Enies Lobby arc... that's has the most fan service in the entire series... if that's not what their complaining about then I don't know what they're complaining about.

Egad. Sensual images might cause young viewers to want to have sense with each other!

What I'm thinking is, "um, do Indonesian parents not take their kids to the beach? Pretty much everything you see in One Piece you'll see there."

Well, except for that one episode where spoiler[Nami is grabbed out of her bathtub by an invisible assailant. Note: don't worry, Usopp and Chopper arrive before he does anything wrong.] But to be honest, if One Piece comes back to Cartoon Network, I have no idea how they'll deal with that scene.

That's why I was laughing when I was reading the comments on the One Piece boxset review about the harsh language. I thought, "A, it clearly says TV-14 on the box, and B) just because in Japan it's a show "suitable" for kids doesn't mean it fits with other countries' general demographics".

USA is a christian country but they butchered animes such as One Piece, Yu-gi-oh, Card Captor Sakura, Saint Seiya, etc. And unfortunately, it affect the outside world, many countries use the American dub. There are morons in every religion.

You must not be familiar with the burqini.

Did you ever see how they dealt with the Tenchi Muyo OVA?

And yet again crazy conservative Islam has a problem with anime.

Remember kids, the female body is a terrible thing and must be covered at all times. Also, women need to be totally obedient.

Ugh. Wonder how this would float in Iran. Anyone else read and or/ see Persepolis?

The issue with that is that One Piece shouldn't even be TV-14 in the first place. There's just no reason for it to be. I mean for starters, there's really no such thing as swearing in the Japanese language anyways save for like, 1 or 2 words, so really there was no swearing in OP to begin with. The only way that swearing could possibly exist for it in that case would be all Funimation's doing, to "spice it up a bit" or whatever. Really, it just wasn't necessary at all and didn't need to be in there, especially if they ever plan on getting that thing on CN any time soon.....

Anyways, I'm all for editing R-rated content to make it more suitable for TV audiances or whatever, but this is just plain ridiculous. I mean, heaven forbid women should have body parts.... Rolling Eyes I mean, at least they keep 'em contained and covered up or whatever. These Indonesian people obviously have no idea what true sensual content is........ Rolling Eyes And bloody violecne? Maybe, but c'mon, that's like, TV-PG level violence if anything. Hardly graphic enough to grant it a ban from television or whatever.

However.........

[rant="in response to the idea of 'fanservice' in One Piece"]

Although even though I was kind of shocked myself at that whole bath scene stuff at the end of the Alabasta arc, from the sound of what others have said about future episodes One Piece apparently has FAR more fanservice in it than I would have ever dreamed!! Shocked I mean, I'm as big a OP fan as anybody, in fact, it's my #3 all-time favorite series, but c'mon! There's NO place whatsoever for crap like that in a series like this!

Nami's breasts are just way too big for TV. *sigh*~~~~~

At least she is an adult, not jail bait like some other female cast members from other shows.

If anything, Nico Robin should have some more screen time.

To be completely honest, the breasts on One Piece are rather large and them being in bikini tops at times don't do the show any favors, either (nothing too revealing, but still...). I was sort of surprised that CN, given their standards, didn't ask FUNimation/Toei to tone it down. Also, the show can get pretty violent and does have more blood than the average shonen series, however cartoony it is. I'm not going to lose sleep over this, but I do find it reasonable.

No, I didn't. You've gotten my curiousity, what did they do?

BrothersElric: Come on, is it really that big of an issue? A series where characters are getting stabbed, shot (in one instance, in the head), etc., profanity that doesn't even pass the "PG" level is a concern?

Heck, if Funi releases movie 6, there's no way it'd air on CN. The little kids would be bawling their lungs out. Even I was shocked, though it is my favorite OP movie (4 being a close second).

They are pirates, after all. I mean, Disney only left out the language because the parents would be in an uproar if Jack said anything worse than "darn".

As for the CN episodes, they record both an edited dub and unedited dub. Viz did the same thing with Naruto.

No, I didn't. You've gotten my curiousity, what did they do?

If you haven't seen the OVA, some episodes contain scenes where the characters are completely naked. Since CN couldn't remove those scenes, as over half the show would be missing, the graphics team at Toonami got creative and digitally painted bikinis and bathing suits over the female characters. I imagine they'd do the same to Nami, regardless of the fact that she should be naked during a bath.

I wish I had a video link to the CN version of Tenchi, but I'm sure someone will provide one soon after they read this post.

Maybe not, but the fact of the matter is that it doesn't even need to be in there in the first place. If the original barely had any swearing in it at all, then why should this have swear every other word, even if it is at a PG level?

Yeah, but that's a SJ-esque movie. It has nothing to do with what the original creator of OP's true intentions are. Really just more of a thing for die hard fans if anything. Plus that and CN doesn't have to show the movie if they don't want to, even if it is clean. Heck, they didn't even show all of DBZ's movies. Just like, 4 or 5 of them.

But then wouldn't you think parents would also be in an uproar if Luffy said anything worse than "darn?" A family friendly pirate story. Pretty much the same concept.

Heh, point taken. Anime smile + sweatdrop But still, even in the case with the Naruto uncut box sets they toned down the language quite a bit. I think all I've ever heard in an entire set were like, 2 or 3 swear words or something. And even then, yeah, it didn't need to be there either.
