Nah, I think Richard Cox fit Ranma more (and he sounds closer to Kappei Yamaguchi) , plus Sarah Strange quit voice acting (plus I didn't like her performance as Ranma to begin with) so, Ranma's pretty much gonna be Richard Cox anyway!!

I think Maryke Hendriske, would do well as Akane (although I despise her) , considering Myriam Sirios no longer does voice acting (plus I didn't like her high pitched yelling, it should have been more like Noriko Hidaka's ), and Jillian Micheals would probably nail Nabiki Tendo's sarcasm (that's probably the whole reason I like Nabiki)


Thank you. Sure Sarah Strange was a good voice actor, but if she doesn't do voice acting anymore, then who else but Richard can fill a role that well?

If I remember correctly, Ranma *offically ended sometime in the 90's, but dvd wise, I belive the series eneded in 2002, so I don't think there is too much of a year gap.

Though I sure would love to hear the orignal cast for the first time in years, makes me wonder what the other voice actors are doing. To be honest though, I thought after the manga format of Ranma 1/2 ended, I thought Ranma 1/2 would become a classic series that would be remembered, but nothing besides that.

Maybe in a decade or two, this series will be remade or completely remastered in the highest quality possible for that time. Any thing is possible in anime business, that is if a show is popular enough.

*At best I am guessing that Ranma 1/2 ended via telvision in the 90's, that is if this series was ever on tv. 2002 is the only solid year I know because that data written on Netflix.

She also hasn't done any voice acting since quitting Ranma.


Without turning this into the great "Sarah Strange vs. replace her" debates of olde, Ranma 1/2 was one of Viz's earliest dubs, so a lot of Ranma VAs aren't "true" VAs - that is, they hardly did much beyond Ranma. Many went on with their theatre or live-action careers afterwards.

As a segue, Ranma was also strange amongst early dubs in that many of its dub VAs were near or even younger than the young characters they played. 14-yr-old Angela Costain was younger than 17-yr-old Nabiki Tendo. 16-yr-old Akane's Myriam Sirios was just 19, IIRC. 19-yr-old Kasumi (17-yr-old Willow Johnson). 16-yr-old Ukyo (17-yr-old Kelly Sheridan). And of course, 16-yr-old Ranma played by 20-yr-old Sarah Strange.

I went to the store today. I was very impressed with her work. I got to see the new 25 min ranma 1/2 episode. It was well worth the wait.

I bought a ton of stuff.

I hope to go there again next weekend. They have a Inuyasha episode.

I don't know why there are haters here of Sarah Strange considering that Sarah Strange brought a certain masculine uniqueness to the male Ranma that to this day, I haven't seen anyone else reproduce that well. Cox was okay as Ranma but he didn't have that flair that Strange had.

Did she really quit just voluntarily? I've heard conflicting reports that she was terminated over a contract dispute with Viz.

The 2002 dates mentioned in the Encyclopedia article are the release dates for the final boxset of Rnama 1/2 in North America. The area under vintage has the Japanese airdates at the very top, which ended in 1992. The OAV's continued on from 1993 to 1996, which is where the "new anime in 12 years" comes from.

It'd be nice to see this available in R1, even if on just a special DVD (how about pairing it with a release of the old Ranma 1/2 Video Jukbox?). Though, I'm almost guaranteed VIZ would get it and I'd hate to see VIZ really go after the nostalgia factor and charge old-school Ranma 1/2 prices. Sad


Oh I see! Wow, 161 episodes in 4 years. No wait, that can work. I must've misread it in the encyclopedia.

Because unless my memory fails me, the half-hour new Ranma OAV they animated is the one where Happousai puts Akane to sleep with magic incense that gives her oddly erotic dreams about how Ranma is a prince saving her from Bondage Queen Kodachi and her henchwench, Metal-Bustier-Clad-Ukyou (and Evil Witch Shampoo)... Anyway, it's in volume 34, Viz volume 32.

Takahashi Rumiko to me would almost seem like the god of manga today. She's written so many different series which all carry popularity with the public even to this day. Amazing. And Shonen Sunday has been around for 50 years now.

Yeah, you can put it wthat way. Now that I think about it her series actually covers quite a few types of genres. And the different age levels of manga.
