NEWS: Linebarrels of Iron's English Promo Video Streamed

I got some odd kind of barrier/gate when I tried to access it. I think it may only available to Japanese IP addresses.

Lovely stuff. Could I hazard a guess and presume that this "Linebarrel" mecha will be controlled almost entirely by shouting?

I have a friend that was greatly impressed by this at AX despite the CGI. Shame it has the shame loading problems as most Japanese promos.

Going on that, it doesn't look all too special. Though anything gets brownie points for using "Ode to Joy".

The CGI especially looks badly meshed and poorly utilized. Well animated but still sticking out like a sore thumb. Couldn't tell too much from the lousy compression. The hand art looks good. Shame though that Hisashi Hirai's doing the character designs. Another series of all of maybe five character faces with interchangable hair to differentiate. Though this looks a step better than his SEED work. Probably since they're adaptations. Though hopefully it's just that he's refined it better. I really miss his style from the Dancougar days, even if they were a tad odd.

At least the story as my friend told it sounded interesting. Particularly the part about him supposedly being dead and all(?). Gonzo has a bad history of mangling mangas, though I'm told they were trying to stay close to this one. Going so far as to bring copies of volume one to the panel.

But...by English is it subbed or with actual English voice? I remember reading somewhere that Tetsuya Kakihara knew English....

I'm in Japan and I had no problems loading it once I used IE AND filled in my age and where in Japan I lived...

It's pretty horribly dubbed in English, with a thick Japanese accent.
Although there are only a few lines of narration in the front, and 1 shouting of an attack line and 1 female "You make me sick" which was actually not too bad.

I'm thinking: Okay, great. Why does an english speaking person give a damn about when it appears on Japanese television? (unless they are implicitly assuming that it'll be immediately fansubbed?)

Or they may be planning to make it available for free legal streaming. With Druaga, Blasreitter (sp?), and now Strike Witches, that [legal free streaming] suddenly became a possibility...

The mechs definitely are ZOE influenced, but the manga itself is actually pretty good. The first volume is terrible, but the second volume performs the fastest 'whiny angsty protagonist' to 'I have a my very own giant robot, this is a pretty good state of affairs' character transition I've seen.
