This book has been out for a month or so in the UK - part of a very good series of monographs from the BFI (British Film Institute) on major international films. Quite short - 110 pages - but a perceptive examination of the influences on 'Spirited Away' and how it fits into Miyazaki's previous work, followed by a concise but insightful analysis of the film itself.

Having read this, I am really looking forward to his book on Kon Satoshi, which should be very well worth it. Will this be the first major book on Kon and his work? (I don't know of any others.) If so, it's about time!

Im on a waiting list at amazon for it, currently you can read: "We'll notify you via e-mail when we have an estimated delivery date for this item."

What prevents me from posting a miniature anti-Miyazaki rant here is the fact that this author has at least decided to publish works about another director. The more diverse the anime-related literature on our shelves the better.
