The one-two punch of Otakon last week and AFO this week means I've got nothing ready to post this week, but perhaps it's well-timed since it just so happens that the most recent episode of AWO featured a review of Nobody's Boy Remi which begins around the 30 minute mark and lasts about that long too. We're not going to presume to be smarter than Justin on this one, but it's a relatively spoiler-free overview of the series as well as the World Masterpiece Theater in general. If you're curious about the series, do listen so you can know just how much of a jerk that narrator is!

I'm sorry I missed this, as Remi (and Orguss) had been kicking around on my "watch for boxsets at Fry's" list.

With such a tiny potential fanbase, are the ImaginAsian titles perhaps better candidates for digital distribution, rather than the physical product of DVDs? Particularly given the failure of the micro-scale print-on-demand model used in this case, maybe it makes sense to opt out of physical manufacturing and distribution altogether. I've really been happy with the anime I've bought from iTunes, both of which are serious niche titles ("Rumbling Hearts" and "Phoenix"), and would jump at the chance to get Remi that way.

I watched this on TV and I loved it, even if I was in tears.

Pretty much, everyone in my generation, watched and cried with Remi and we often joke how messed up we grew up because we watched Remi, Candy Candy, 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother and some other shows that made us cry our eyes out.

Here in Mexico, we are getting a boxset with the original spanish dub and I think spanish subtitles, but I haven't had money to buy it.

Hopefully, you'll get the chance to enjoy it as we did back in the day ^^

It is available on amazon.fr for ~28€, which is about 42$ per half season.
I bought the first half when I was in France for way less, but I still haven't seen it, since I don't really trust my French skills Very Happy

I didn't buy the Imaginasian series when they were available...money was a bit tight and I didn't expect them to drop off the Earth. I rather regret it now, at least in Remi's case. I really hope another way of providing them opens up.

wow, thats a pretty impressive list of shows there. Admitably, 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother I didn't especially like but I love Romeo's Blue Skies which has a similar-sounding plot to Remi.

I didn't know you worked on that stuff Justin (its Justin, right?). I will definately try to track this title down now. Its a shame that something like this goes unnoticed these days.

I checked out Paploo's link, and being a French-speaker I read its customer reviews on a whim. One of these posts has me so curious I have to ask this, at the risk of sounding stupid.

He says the series was produced so that it could be watched in 3-D with those 3-D glasses that have a cyan filter on one side and a neutral filter on the other. Sounds unlikely, but he says it works beautifully, and that there's clear distance between the different planes in the multi-plane animation Justin mentions.

It seems possible in theory, but could this really be?

Here's the link to the forum for any other French-speakers check out:

I remember watching this in Spanish many moons ago and was planning to pick up the set when ImagineAsial pulled the plug... I barely finished picking up Orguss in time (wonder If I can ever find a replacement cover, mine got ruined by water).

Man I just love the work that Dezaki and Sugino manage to do with Golgo 13 and Cobra. Remi is a rollercoaster ride thru hell as this little kid is tossed, tumbled and hunged to dry by the unfairness of life.

And we do apreciate the job you did with the Anime Classic line Justin

Wonder if that will be coded R1 too... Man The only spanish Anime we get here is the really kiddie stuff like Yugioh alongside TransFormers Armada and the 4 Kids Ninja Turtles and no info whatsoever about what's coming out in Mexico. Confused

And here I thought I was the only one who not only watched the entire series during its Imaginasian run, but also picked up most of the DVD's. Unfortunately when I finally got around to ordering the last 4 volumes, they were already out of circulation. I would love more than almost anything to see these DVDs go back onto the market. Nobody's Boy Remi is one of the greatest pieces of animation I've ever seen and I want to support it in anyway I can.

Also, I want to say thank you to Justin. The DVD's looked great and I thought you did a fantastic job. I only wish they could have stayed in circulation for much longer. If there's ever another opportunity I'm going to make sure to pick up the rest of the DVDs.

I saw a couple of episodes of this the last time I was in Japan and it really surprised me
a) that despite my Japanese being quite awful it was so well done I could still see what was going on. It's simple yet the music and expressions told everything
b) that it was a kids show shown in the morning. It was the saddest show I've ever seen. What would be the dramatic and tearful end of one series happens midway through a single episode in this and then he has worse luck the next ep.

No Confused Mexico is R4

You're not missing much right now, in the last few years, the only anime that has come out in the last few years is the same that you're getting :S

Wow, that's quite some work you did there Justin. I think I remember watching the girl version, but I enjoyed the Moomin titles more than anything else from WMT. Too bad that it's a harder thing to find these days (though I was Japan at the time when you were putting these things out).

I just find it funny that the American anime fans found out about "Remi" just recently...it has aired (and is still airing sometimes) in my country ever since I was a little kid (and I'm 25 by the way). It's a cult-classic kid's show here, the theme song is etched in the minds of anybody who's ever watched it....

If I remember correctly, the French version of the song was:

Je suis sans famille
Et je m'appelle Remi
Et je me ballade
Avec tous mes amis
Ma famille a moi c'est celle que j'ai choisie
Car on a besoin d'affection dans la vie

Or something like that....it's just a really brief translation.
Well, that's part of the song anyway...it would translate into something like this:

I don't have a family
And my name is Remi
And I travel with all of my friends
My family is the one I have chosen
Because we all need love in our lives

Nice review. I appreciated the shout-out. And props for actually pronouncing my name right.
