No Confused Mexico is R4

I know, they could be dual coded R1 & R4... One can hope Smile

I know that Saint Seiya boxed sets got a very limited release in Mexico (it sure beats what we got in R1 from ADV and that travesty that the US Version of Knights of the Zodiac was didn't help one bit either Crying or Very sad )

I used to watch Remi on ImaginAsian TV every morning as I got ready for work when they used to play it early in the morning. I really miss getting to see it. That was the one thing I looked forward to every morning before work. Sad

I remember describing this series to people and just going through all the bad stuff that happens to poor Remi. It really is enough to make your head spin!

I remember watching it one morning and going through my daily getting-ready-for-work routine and the episode where spoiler[Vitalis dies] was on. I had to totally redo my make-up that morning because I just started crying. The end made me weepy, too.

Really good series. I really enjoyed all of the old school TMS stuff that ImaginAsian was doing (Orgus and Cat's Eye) and I wish they would do some more someday. I get so tired of new anime series sometimes. It was nice to get to watch some old anime in the mornings and I really miss it.

Remi is a wonderful par of my childhood.
One of those animated treasures to make me cry a lot. Almost all people in Latinamerica (with more than 28 years) remember this animé.

Is in my top 3 of vintage anime with Heidi and Marco.

I occasionally run across DVDs labeled R1, but are actually region-free. For stuff that actually is R1, thank God for DVD player remote control codes. If I had to stick with R3 stuff, there wouldn't be an awful lot of anime I could buy legally.

Too bad Nobody's Boy - Remi is so hard to get. It sounds good and something that I would enjoy.

It reminds me of the lesser known Fantastic Children that I love, but not many people seem to care about since its older and not main stream. But the journey is a "fantastic" one and should be a part of a lot of anime fans collections; not many anime touch on subjects like reincarnation and forcibly bringing people back to life. (Another over looked - newer anime - that is good, is called little Petite Princess Yucie. A shoujo anime with a heart felt story line and good female characters. A very over looked shoujo title, since it is aimed at kids. However I think that anyone can enjoy it.)

Also it is sad that anime titles keep on disappearing as they get older. I have been trying to find Irresponsible Capitan Tylor TV series, but it's out of print and I can't find it anywhere... and even now its not that old! (Has not been in dvd form in US/Canada for long.)

I'm pretty sure that Right Stuf announced at anime expo that they were going to be re-releasing Irresponsible Captain Tylor, and it would in fact be a new remaster that the Japanese company did.

Here, a copy-and-paste of their press release:

Quote:
Remastered IRRESPONSIBLE CAPTAIN TYLOR

Nozomi Entertainment has plans to revisit another fan favorite from the Right Stuf catalog, with upcoming re-releases of THE IRRESPONSIBLE CAPTAIN TYLOR. The television series and OVAs (original video animation) each will be re-released as bilingual, thinpak-style box sets that utilize remastered video footage from the Japanese DVD release and feature “soft subtitles.”

As a service to fans who purchased the “Ultra Edition” versions of these releases, Right Stuf will offer a trade-in program, with details to be announced in the future.

Proclaimed one of the “50 best anime of all time” by Anime Insider, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor is based upon a series of novels by Hitoshi Yoshioka and features direction by Koichi Mashimo (Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, Noir, Sorcerer Hunters). The English dub stars Crispin Freeman as “Captain Justy Ueki Tylor,” Lisa Ortiz as “Azalyn,” Rachael Lillis as “Yuriko Star,” Carol Jacobanis as “Harumi Nakagawa,” David Brimmer as “Lt. Makato Yamamoto” and Veronica Taylor as “Shia Has.”

Visit www.tylor.com for information about The Irresponsible Captain Tylor and for details about the re-releases and trade-in program, as they are made available.

I bet. Must have been nice. Granted, most of the stuff I've ever watched my entire life has been Anime but when I was growing up it was like Speed Racer and Gatchaman and Go Lion and the like. I definitely watched more comedy and action then than I do now.

I'm sure that Mexico is R4 is save someone from losing money or something. I can remember when there was good Anime in Spanish though on the local Spanish station, Dragon Ball Z unedited, Red Baron, and Slam Dunk (though, admitably, I don't like Slam Dunk.) I'm sorry to hear that Mexico has been in the same situation, or worse, than America in regards to the Anime market.

Very Happy

I don't know how I missed that. I'm usually pretty good with keeping up with Right Stuf and their releases... *shames self*

But thank you underbase so much for telling me!

(I tried to PM this to you, but for some reason it kept failing to send...)

Hey I just discovered your Buried Treasures column and I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you're doing! After reading your intro to the review of Human Crossing, a big smile was forced onto my face and almost a tear. I happen to be an aspiring director as well as critic. I've always loved the idea that I can share the things that move me with others, so that maybe they can be moved as well. It's always sad when a great show/movie goes under the radar and doesn't get to touch the lives it could have. I have much respect for you for bringing these things to light, especially since you are damn good at finding them, haha. I hope that I can become a good enough writer and big enough afficianado that I can eventually do what you do and find my own audience (as it stands, I run a blog, but unsurprisingly the hits only really come in when I talk about mainstream shows Anime hyper). I look forward to seeing some of the series you've talked about, namely the ones that are actually findable (god I need to learn Japanese!) and continuing to use your column to find new shows.

One thing I want to note though - there are big time Shinbo fans out there! He happens to be my favorite director!

The remake was more popular here, I think. I've only seen the boy version once, and the girl version at least three times. They still show it here once in a while.

Heh, the girl remake once made an appearance on International Channel in an Arabic-dubbed edition they aired years ago.

That first disc I got from you left me mortified. I really wanted to see more but didn't get the chance to grab the rest from you. I do hope you're able to resurrect the classics line. Believe it or not, despite the overall sales figures of the industry and the like. many people I've found at cons do want to see older anime to learn what came before. I've seen people fill up rooms for 80's and 70's titles. Animation students in particular seem to be curious about older techniques and the like. Despite not being as popular as modern animated shows, I\it's not totally as hopeless as people think for this kind of project to be moderately successful I think.

We can only hope, I had to find out about the trouble about a week after it happened, and snatched up whatever I could find of Remi.

Not sure if this'll help many people, but there is an R1, regular pressing version of Remi, available from Imavision (Canadian DVD company, best known in english for their Little House on the Prairie dvd's]. The catch is it's french. This was issued a few years ago, but looks to still be available.....

There's been a number of foreign-language DVD's for Remi out there, funny none them them have a Japanese audio track I noticed or subs in their language for them.

Well, in Latin America, it was well-known (along with other series, like Candy Candy and Robotech). In fact, the Mexican dub actor that gave voice to Mr. Vitalis died on Monday. Rest in peace.

Wonder if that dub was aired on Univision in the 80's, as I noticed this show had aired on there when they actually showed some Spanish-dubbed anime back in the day.

Watching the show I keep thinking, for some strange reason, that I would love to see the show in French with English subtitles.

No prob's here!

Thinking about whatever dribble TMS gave Sevakis to work from in subbing the show, it's funny an English version never saw the light of day (despite English credits showing up on the Latin American release). I think I would've loved this show if it had found a place somewhere on cable TV in the 80's when stuff like Belle & Sebastian was airing on Nick or the obscure gems that CBN had on I forgot to see.

I suppose I'm one in the handful who was lucky enough to be able to get the whole set.

Now I'm PO'ed and jealous! Mad

But then again this was the one show of the three from ImaginAsian/TMS that I was really excited about because a friend had strongly recommended the show to me about 2 or 3 years ago. Still, for other reasons, I didn't actually start watching it until last week.

I've only gotten through the first two discs, and wish I could see more.

Wow,

I didn't realize that you, Justin, had so much to do with those Imaginasian line of titles. In retrospect I should have picked up Nobody's Boy Remi, but I was very faithful with getting Cat's Eye through TRSI.

Not to change subjects away from Remi, but I really enjoyed Cat's Eye. Thanks for working on that one, Justin. Regardless of any of the weaknesses of the show, I found myself really drawn in by the three sisters over the course of the series, especially when the plot lines ramped up and became a little more serious.

I thought it was a good way to try to bring back old, out of print series. Now, only if you had some more support on the actual work, maybe it would have not have been such a love / hate relationship! Wink

If only some of us had ImaginAsian to watch.

Askman wrote:
Damn, after reading the article now I'm very interested in this series. It looks like I'm going to burn through some more of my paycheck.

Good luck trying to find those discs.

Fronzel wrote:
I didn't buy the Imaginasian series when they were available...money was a bit tight and I didn't expect them to drop off the Earth. I rather regret it now, at least in Remi's case. I really hope another way of providing them opens up.

We can only hope. Once money came in handy for me, I was only able to pick them up from a thrid party seller, and ended up with volumes 1, 2, 4, 7 and 8. I wish i could go further after the first two discs, but couldn't due to the break-up in episodes and things I'd be missing.

Ever seen Ringing Bell?

Some probably haven't seen it (and since he seems to be from Mexico, they might not've shown it down there).

No O_o, but after reading the wikipedia page, now I want to watch it.

It's quite an interesting film. It was released in an English-dubbed format up here in the 80's by RCA/Columbia Pictures Home Video in the 80's (alongside other Sanrio animated features they once had like Unico, The Sea Prince & the Fire Child, and a few American-made efforts like The Mouse & His Child and Winds of Change). The entire film has been stuck up on YouTube at the moment I noticed.

See Justin, got it all in one post! Other than that, I'm still slightly PO'ed for not getting around to getting these discs before that folly happened. Sucks having an incomplete set unless I don't happen to find someone with the missing discs I could try to weasel 'em from anyway possible. Still rather upset I can't really enjoy what I've been watching so far. The kind of show I probably would've loved seeing 20-25 years ago at an impressionable age alongside the kind of stupid stuff that came on Saturday morning.

Bothering to bump this thread up a bit, I just want to say I'm still on the look out or those missing volumes I need to complete my collection.

Also had to notice someone did a Wiki for this show now, but apparently some jerk decided to post some bogus information about TMS and Toei having done business with several US studios in the past that is TOTALLY incorrect. I don't feel like correcting any of it, the losers, they can just go to hell for all I care!
