The TV series also aired in the US on Fox Kids. I wasn't a big fan, but I liked the story enough. My condolences to his family.

| So cybersix was an anime? I always wondered, or is it Japanese animated only? As for the news I'm sorry to hear he died. I enjoyed his works. |

It was an international coproduction between TMS, Teletoon [Canadian cartoon network] a company called NAS and some others, with writing done in Canada, but animation work done primarily by TMS, based off the comic's look. It was very popular due to it's fluid animation that put most animated TV series to shame- Teletoon still reruns it on occasion, and it had a home video release in Canada when it aired as well.
It's sad to hear the news of his death, as that's still pretty young for a cartoonist- many of the best artists continue producing excellent work well into their late 60's and onward. I hope his work continues to be printed worldwide, and we get to see more of it in english someday. |

Pretty much. The actual series conception (or story writing) was Japanese, but the episode writing was primarily Canadian. The most interesting thing is the animation was lipsynced to the english voices and was dubbed later into Japanese. The only other series that TMS did I can think of that did that before, would have to be Sherlock Hound, where they recorded it in english then to Japanese.
Apparently TMS and NOA planned on making the series longer than it already was (and apparently Season 2 was in the works back in 2000), but apparently costs and the ratings were deciding factors of not happening. It really didn't help that the Japanese airing wasn't given a network broadcast and TMS didn't do much to promote it there. Ah well.
At anyrate, getting back to the post at hand. It's actually pretty disapointing and sad to hear that he died, especially being only 50 years old. I couldn't imagen dying that early... I hope his family and friends are well. |

Oh man!! That's terrible!! I REALLY enjoyed the 'Cybersix' series and REALLY wanted to read the comics.
Really sad. Didn't realize he was around that long. I thought (after first hearing of the series) that he was a new "face".

| Thank you ChibiGoku, Paploo i've been wondering that for a long time. I do remember the animation being pretty good for the time, and i think i'd love to have this series on dvd. I feel bad that the co-creators death is what sparked me to getting around to buy the series, but better late than never. |

It's a damn shame. Wish he had gotten a bit more recognition here in the US. First found out about Meglia from the all too short lived Cyber Six cartoon. Later saw some of his comics work for DC, like Superman Tarzan. Found some Star Wars work he did. Plus I heard how favorite artist Humberto Ramos cited him as an influence. I have not found any of his native work in English sadly. Well, save for some fan translated scans online of Cyber Six. (Yeah, fan translations of Argentinean comics. Nice to see some people don't just look in Japan for comics.) Plus I could only find episodes of the TV show online through less than legit means too.

Cybersix was a very well written series and one of my favorite shows on Teletoon. Hearing about Meglia's death saddens me deeply. He will be greatly missed and hopefully his series will get a DVD release one day.

Personally, I would rather prefer never to hear Cybersix and Fox Kids in the same sentence ever again. Fox shouldn't have bothered with it in the first place.

The character designs were top notch but the animation was far from fluid. There was lots of choppy animation in places to which I considered to be that show's only downside. |

Well, I can't blame them. No one in Japan are going to bother to watch an anime based in an unknown Latin American comic (for them) anyways. |

They didn't air three episodes, including the last two episodes which in my opinion were two of the best episodes. It's a shame Fox Kids didn't give the show the love it deserved but I guess that's not surprising. I was fortunate enough to pick this series up on VHS at the time. I'm not holding my breath on a DVD release. I would love to see it happen but it seems pretty unlikely. Although France got a DVD release at the time but only in French of course. Really I could be happy if the Cybersix comics were released in English. I've always wanted to read them. |

I don't think gender matters, so I used a gender neutral pronoun, I just didn't want ten people to say "LOl n00b tey is a dudez", so I offered an explanation of what that meant. |
