Blasphemy! Orguss 2 doesn't even come close to the majesty of VOTOMS.

Pfft nothing does.

I am surprised to see Orguss 02 in Buried Treasure cause I have NEVER heard good things about it. But I don't know. That was such a glowing review, it makes me want to see it. Sounds like something I whould like anyhow.

EDIT: Good Gravy, look at these prices on the Amazon.com Marketplace. Finding this could be trickier then I thought.

Just switch your DVD player to region free and import Manga's UK R2 release from Amazon.co.uk - you can pick it up brand new over here for less than £5 (US$10).

Does the R2 release have the same Subbing problems reported in the review?

I just kicked the dub habit, and I'd hate to end up backsliding into a release with terrible subs, forcing me to watch it dubbed.

I didn't notice the mistiming in the last two episodes that Justin mentioned so that appears to have been fixed for the UK release. As for the accuracy of the subs though, I don't speak Japanese so I couldn't really say. Chances are it's the same script used for the US subs but I couldn't swear to it.

Is the Sub a bad translation? Or just not accurate to the Japanese dialog?

If you're asking whether it reads okay (and conveys what's going on) then, yes - it's fine. If you don't speak Japanese, I doubt you'll have a problem with it.

I speak some Japanese (got a minor in it in college - my school didn't offer the major unfortunately), but I'm usually forgiving enough. I'm watching Blood+ and those are really horrid 'dubtitles' It doesn't usually take me out of the show but I still notice it :S So I think I'd be ok with Orguss 02

Ok, so I finally snagged a used copy, and I have to say that this has as much to do with Orguss as the Nadesico movie had to do with its respective show. Really, the whole point of the OVA seems to be that the studio wanted to cash in on all the media popular at the time, while calling it Orguss 02, so that it could be copyrighted, and so there'd be an instant audience for it.

"Let's see, two medieval kingdoms fighting with mechs, LOTGH-style? Check. Naive, but wholesome young guy thrust into the war while being pursued for the girl who holds the key to saving his country? Great, now we got Macross II covered. Mysterious psychic girl who's descended from two different species, and is thus more powerful than her parents? Now we've got the people who liked FFVI interested! Oh, and let's bring back the mech guy to explain everything, because it worked for T2!!" Rolling Eyes

I can sort of see why Justin liked it, because it's more serious than the original version, and the mechs don't look like crap. [Even though it doesn't say in the ANN credits, I seriously believe they got some Robot Carnival and Nadesico people involved. ] But the violence seems a lot more forced, and the characters seem to be written to be antagonistic. [Which I guess means this is another anime Anno probably ripped off. Razz ]

Randall: I actually liked Macross II, but only because it didn't fail as horribly as M7.

Akyho: The problem with the New Dominion Tank Police is no Baku.

Mr. Adventure: You should see the used prices for Baoh.
