spoiler[Re-establishing Kissisuo from scratch could easily provide the basis for a 26 episode series.] If the character development and graphics are as good as the first series, it'll be another treat.

I think that was an implied spoiler, but then again I should know better when reading comments about a future anime based on an existing one... I only saw the first 2/3 episodes on Crunchyroll.

I don't see how 1-2 "bad" episodes totally screwed up the series. Episode 3 was seriously not that big of a deal, imo. Unless you find the mention of anything slightly illegal or perverted, or a small bit of fanservice and comedy in a drama series a total dealbreaker when it comes to anime...

F***, not this shit again. Canaan and Angel Beats were actually good and could use more material and they choose this?

Same here...All I want is one last episode that shows everyone holding true to their promise and let it end there for good.

When the series ended all I could think of was how much I wanted to see these characters 10-20 years from "now". I doubt it will happen, but it would make me very happy if it did.

Oh the SOL haters Laughing

Hypothetically speaking, I think it would be cool if they did a time skip, had some characters that couldn't return (insert early dramatic events here), maybe throw in a new character or two, and killed off Granny putting all the responsibility on Ohana and her mother to run the inn.

I'd be all in for a full season of that, because I really liked the ending, and think it would be much better if they didn't sully it.

I love angel beats and have not seen cannan but I can say that this show is critically more acclaimed then both of those, and is more open to non-anime people and people in general, also it is a very down to earth slice of life that is very strong, with great characters. what's you reason for hating the show

It is definitely not more open to "non-anime" people as it is way more Japanese, so to speak, than either of Angel Beats or Canaan. My problems with it are these:
1. It starts well but nosedives fast and never really recovers except for a pretty good last episode. When it's not absolutely ridiculous (like episode 3 and some others), it's infuriating, boring, stupid, etc.
2. The characters are terrible, or at least the writing of them is. Character development is constantly pushed to the side for half-assed comedy and the characters often come off as stupid and incompetent more than they should. Like Enishi, who has worked in this business all his life (literally) and is still somehow too incompetent at his age to run the Kissuiso despite the fact he actually shows some management skills throughout the series. I'd mention more (there's a lot to say), but I don't want to turn this into a review or character analysis column.
3. The theme songs (OPs in particular) make my ears bleed. Further disappointing since I've seen everything P.A. Works has to offer and the theme songs have always been amazing.

I have nothing against slice-of-life shows (check out my K-ON avatar), but I had a really difficult time finishing this one. If I'd known it would never get better I would have dropped it early on or, better yet, never started it at all.

It disappoints me that this is the series of theirs that gets more attention and episodes.

I am sorry that it's boring because it is not moe. I have shown this to my parents and minus episode 3 they really liked it. I showed angel beats to them, and my mom could not handle how much of an idiot the characters in angel beats can act, in the opening episodes. the characters in iroha are far more developed and two dimensional (I LOVE ANGEL BEATS, and my bluray of it). Iroha is a series people can relate to it's about a hotel/ inn that is not to unfamiliar to an american audience.

Thanks for assuming it's all about the moe.

Angel Beats does lack character development. That's one of its problems. It really should have been longer while Hanasaku Iroha should have been shorter.

You seem to feel really strongly about this. I guess I have to watch episode 3 again because It didn't bother me enough for me to remember it. However, saying it had to struggle to get over the finish line with a positive rating? A positive rating in your own books maybe. Last I checked it did very well in Japan the entire run it had...which is why they're making more. If it had to "Struggle" they'd give up on it.

Sales and viewership does not equal quality, otherwise no-one would watch or read Naruto or Bleach.

Episode three had the bondage episode were Ohana actually helps the author who has just kidnapped her to tie the knots in her shibari correctly. That's so dumb I don't even know where to start criticising it.

It also had the whole business with the attempted suicide. I'm not against fiction depicting suicide, my beef is that the writing and dialogue were pretty horrible.

I'm looking forward to more, if only because Ohana was one of the best "genki" girls I've seen in a long time.

The same Seiyuu played Mihoshi from Sora no Manimani, which is not only a better show but the genkiness was far better delivered. Ohana is annoying as hell, Mihoshi is not. Oh, and by "better show" I don't mean in visuals or music; Hanasaku Iroha is far, far better in those respects. What I'm referring to is the things that actually matter, which are the characters and the writing and the sense of wonder that is invoked.

Well, the show can't possibly be worse than Twilight, so sure, why not.

aye.. didn't get my joke eh? Well this show alone made more ntr doujins from ep3 than any other series I have seen in the past 5 years lol..

In all honesty I do hope they do a small time-skip with ohana around my age "24-26" trying to reopen the inn but that would lose the shoujo crowd if the female lead is to old...

I have to agree that a series that skips a few years would give a reasonable story line, but there's no way they're going to get the same budget they got for the original series. Wasn't HI the anniversary series for the studio last year? And Hanasaku Iroha with crappy animation would just be annoying in comparison with the original.

As far as the quality of episode 3, I was uncomfortable with the whole setup, and the way the plot resolves itself. But it sets up a lot of character development. and the way Ohana develops "Stockholm Syndrome" is both hysterical and plausible. And later episodes are even more fan-servicey. Also, think about how bad the fanservice COULD have been in an anime set in an onsen. The creators of this series had to make some concessions to the commercialism of network execs, but overall it was a classy series.
